About Quarters: A Personal Development Book Club in NYC
📚 About Our Club
This is an in-person, social, and interactive book club for thoughtful growth, shared learning, and meaningful conversation.
There are two things that make this club unique: our structure and our emphasis on connection.
Structure: Instead of choosing a new topic and book every month, we organize the year into four Quarters (three months at a time). Each quarter focuses on one personal development theme such as Communication, Leadership, Time Management, etc. During each quarter, we read three books on that theme, one per month.
This approach allows us to go deeper, connect ideas across authors, and reflect on how these concepts show up in real life.
Connection: Just as importantly, the club is designed to foster connection - It’s as much about the people as it is about the books. Sessions are social, interactive, and conversation-based, more like a great group chat than a formal discussion or lecture. Everyone is encouraged to participate, but there is no pressure to perform or have it all figured out. The goal is that you leave each session with new perspectives, meaningful conversations, and new friends, not just notes from a book.
How the “Quarters” Work
- The year is divided into 4 Quarters (3 months each)
- At the start of each quarter, members vote on a personal development theme
- Each quarter focuses on one theme
- Before each month, members vote on the book related to that quarter’s theme
- We read one book per month, for a total of three books per quarter
- Each monthly meeting focuses primarily on that month’s book
- Attendance is flexible. Come to one session or all of them
Example:
A quarter might focus on Communication. Over three months, we would read three different books by three different authors, all approaching communication from different angles. This gives us depth, contrast, and shared context for conversation.
This Is for You If You:
- Enjoy personal growth and thoughtful conversation
- Want a social way to learn and reflect
- Like conversation more than lectures
- Value depth over skimming topics
- Want to meet curious, growth-oriented people
If you are excited about learning together, meeting new people, and growing a little at a time, we would love to have you.
Read what you can, bring your perspective, and join the conversation.
