The Summer I Turned Pretty

Now an Original Series on Prime Video!

Belly has an unforgettable summer in this stunning start to the Summer I Turned Pretty series from the New York Times bestselling author of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Jenny Han.

Some summers are just destined to be pretty.

Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer—they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one wonderful and terrible summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Light, Nostalgic Summer Read (But a Little Frustrating) The Summer I Turned Pretty is one of those books that perfectly captures the feeling of long, lazy summers—beach houses, first loves, and all the messy emotions that come with growing up. It’s an easy, breezy read with a lot of nostalgic charm, but at the same time, it left me a little frustrated. Belly is at the center of a classic love triangle with Conrad and Jeremiah, two brothers she’s spent every summer with. The drama? Absolutely there. The romance? Complicated. But sometimes, the characters’ decisions had me side-eyeing the pages. Belly spends a lot of time obsessing over Conrad, who is broody to the max, while Jeremiah is right there being sweet and actually putting in effort. It made for a lot of back-and-forth, and I just wanted someone to make a solid decision. That being said, the setting is perfect. Jenny Han nails the summer atmosphere, making every bonfire, late-night swim, and quiet emotional moment feel real. The family dynamics, especially between Belly’s mom and Susannah, added a lot of heart to the story, giving it more depth beyond the romance. It’s a fun, quick read, and I get why it’s such a comfort book for so many people. But the love triangle drama and some of Belly’s choices kept me from fully loving it. If you’re looking for a light, emotional summer read with a little angst, it’s worth picking up—but just be ready for some teenage chaos.

I laughed, I cried, and I got angry. It took me a minute to catch up with the flow but after i found it i could not put this book down. Belly brought to life what it felt like being treated as a kid and falling for your first love and how powerful that is. Belly is a dynamic character that is childish and interesting and beautiful but still very immature and whiny! I felt like I could connect with every character and their vibe. I felt every setting and word. I will say alot of the typical (or what is presumed typical) teenage drama was a but far fetched but still pretty good overall low 4!!

For fans of slow burn romance, feel good books, ya romance, coming of age romance!

Jenny MF Han.

Han is a very talented writer and I enjoy her book-screen adaptations and definitely made the mistake of watching the screening of this before reading the book. (Going to read book #2 before the next season for sure)

I really enjoyed the show so chose to read the book to see how it compared. I would say I enjoyed both equally but man was Belly getting on my last nerve. I was rolling my eyes at moments because of the whole “girl only friends with the boys and my only girl friend is a bitch I’d rather hang with the guys but also I am in love with them” GOD.

But I really enjoyed Cam more than I enjoyed chemistry with Belly and the other boys but I will see where things go.
