It's Not Summer Without You

Now an Original Series on Prime Video!
Belly finds out what comes after falling in love in this follow-up to The Summer I Turned Pretty from the New York Times bestselling author of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before (now a major motion picture!), Jenny Han.
It used to be that Belly counted the days until summer, until she was back at Cousins Beach with Conrad and Jeremiah. But not this year. Not after Susannah got sick again and Conrad stopped caring. Everything that was right and good has fallen apart, leaving Belly wishing summer would never come. But when Jeremiah calls saying Conrad has disappeared, Belly knows what she must do to make things right again. And it can only happen back at the beach house, the three of them together, the way things used to be. If this summer really and truly is the last summer, it should end the way it started—at Cousins Beach.

⭐️⭐️ Frustrating, Messy, and Lacking the Summer Magic
It's Not Summer Without You had all the teen drama I expected, but without the charm that made the first book feel special. The beach house, the nostalgia, the lighthearted summer atmosphere—all of that was gone, and what was left felt frustrating and emotionally draining in a way that wasn’t satisfying.
Belly’s love triangle with Conrad and Jeremiah got even messier, but instead of feeling invested, I just felt exhausted. Conrad was even more distant and broody, Jeremiah was still the nice guy in waiting, and Belly spent most of the book confused and heartbroken—which, honestly, I get, but it made for a really repetitive and frustrating read. I wanted someone to communicate like an actual person instead of sulking and making everything harder.
The emotional weight of Susannah’s absence was important, and I appreciated how grief played a role in the story, but it felt overshadowed by all the relationship drama. The pacing dragged, the characters kept making questionable decisions, and overall, it just felt like a book full of waiting around for something big to happen—and when it did, it wasn’t really worth it.
I wanted to love this, but it lacked the fun, warmth, and emotional depth that could have made it a strong sequel. Instead, it just left me frustrated. Hoping the final book brings back some of the magic

I liked this less than the first one. It wasnât the fun summer read I was hoping for, like book #1 was.
Wowâ This book just opens on a sucker punch to the gut, huh?
It moved quickly and somewhat chaotically at times. At first I thought Belly was acting very childish throughout its entirety, but then I had to remind myself not only of her age, but also the exact way it hurts to lose a cherished loved one and I realized she wasnât acting THAT childish. She was just sixteen after a first heartbreak.
Susannah is the true heart this series. It was already clear in the first book and even more so after everyone lost her. She was what had kept them together for all those years and she is what has cemented them in one anotherâs lives forever.
This book, in my opinion, was not as good as the first. However, I still enjoyed it just the same. Jere stepping up for not only his brother, but also his feelings for Belly. That was huge character growth in my eyes and made me see him, much like Belly, in a new light.
It was nice to get into his head and see just how long he had been having those feelings for Belly he declared in the first book.
I also wanted to just hug Conrad. Poor boy is not only hurting over the loss of his mom, but struggling with where he stands with Belly â which also made me want to shake him at times.
Very solid next chapter in these characters journeys.

This was a nice follow-up to how the first book ended but there was so much happening. Firstly, I cried way more in this one because all things Susannah just got me going. It was really sad to see how much all of the kids’ lives changed when she passed and seeing the interaction between Conrad, Jeremiah and Belly had me hooked the whole time. Can’t wait to see how everything wraps up in the third book!
