Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

The #1 New York Times best-selling series. Includes an excerpt from Hollow City and an interview with author Ransom Riggs A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs. It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow--impossible though it seems--they may still be alive. A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows. "A tense, moving, and wondrously strange first novel. The photographs and text work together brilliantly to create an unforgettable story."--John Green, New York Times best-selling author of The Fault in Our Stars
"With its X-Men: First Class-meets-time-travel story line, David Lynchian imagery, and rich, eerie detail, it's no wonder Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children has been snapped up by Twentieth Century Fox. B+"--Entertainment Weekly
"'Peculiar' doesn't even begin to cover it. Riggs' chilling, wondrous novel is already headed to the movies."--People

After watching the film I asked my aunt to purchase this book for me to see if the story has more depth in it. It resulted that it didn't it actually didn't surpass my expectations. But overall i have to say it was a good love story better than the one in the movie in my opinion. I don't know why they decided to change Olive to be the girl with fire abilities. Over all it was an OK book, for being his first published book but still why didn't he keep the original story?
It was disappointing to figure out that their was no meaning to the story if its their it must be hard to find but if anything its just a book to read for fun in my opinion. Its a great world to escape to. i would wish i could anticipate a second fill to this trilogy but after reading the book I don't think their will a second film to the series. If their is it will not follow the book story line but will make a story of its own.

Using Assets Well
One of the most intriguing pieces of this book are the pictures. If you donât already know, this book has old black and white photographs mingled throughout and they act as nice breakers from the text. Not only that, but they are implemented well into the story and enhance the description very well. It was a risk, naturally, but a well-played risk and a nice addition to the book.
Off A Cliff
The book started off with lots of intriguing factors and little bits that draw the reader in, and keeps the reader for quite some time. Yet, part way through the book, when the real action is supposedly starting, my interest dropped off. The book answered all the questions I had already. I didnât really care what happened to characters any more, and therefore it felt as though the story fell off a cliff and became uninteresting.
Romance
I was not expecting there to be a romance in this book and I was sorely disappointed there was. Why? Because the book didnât need it. The book would have worked so well without it and the romance felt like it was just thrown in after the fact. Either that, or the romance is why I was no longer interested in the last half of the book. It did little for the plot and took up valuable world-building space.
Alright. Not sure if itâs just me, but I really have to say that the romance creeped me out. Not only is Emma technically decades older than Jacob, but she also was in love with dating Jacobâs grandfather. That whole relationship no doubt added to why the romance felt wrong, and even after Jacob comments on it, he still goes for Emma. Like⦠what?!

Interesting read, writing style and world to fall into. Not sure how I feel about reading the second yet. But I think the photos are an interesting part to a rather awesome story line.
Jacob led an ordinary life. Yet he just didn't fit in... Anywhere but with his eccentric grandfather Abe. Abe was special. He was a peculiar. He could see the minsters that nobody else can. He gets murdered and as Jacob finds his grandfather dying, Jacob sees the monster that killed his grandfather. With Abe's dying last breaths, he instructs Jacob to go to the Old Man's grave and find a key. It will allow Jacob to get the truth. The truth about what? Everyone, including Jacobs parents think Jacob lost his marbles. They take him to see dr. Golan a psychiatrist. Dr. Golan encourages Jacob to go to the island his grandfather spoke about and seek the answers there.
Once Jacob and his father arrive in the island, strange things start to happen and Jacob starts to realize his cracked grandfather wasn't so cracked after-all. He slowly uncovers the truth ... All of it. But can he handle it?
The beginning was a chilly spine tingling but as you continue reading, you start (ok, I start) to care about Jacob, Emma, and the rest of the peculiars. I quite enjoyed it and look forward to the next book in the series. Yup, the ending left it in the air Great set up for the next book in the series.

Most amazing book. I love the thrill it gave me when I saw the many twist and turns in the novel. Ransom Riggs has blown me away.
