I love, love, love this series. The time periods, the character development, writing style and integration of pictures to help develop visuals are simply wonderful.
My jaw is on the floor. I started this book years ago and never finished it. (There was A LOT going on for me in high school 😵💫). The way this shifts EVERYTHING I thought I knew about the peculiar world. When the movie came out, it’s what got me to want to read the books. The movie is done very well, and I understand that it’s a standalone without sequels. So, I DO understand them cutting or changing things, but WHOA! I wasn’t exactly ready for what it took out. Jacob can TALK to the hollows in a way I don’t understand yet. That’s so much cooler than only being able to see them! Why did they take that out of the movie? Another thing they changed, which I originally thought was just to not have it be extremely violent, is hollows. In the movie, they only eat the eyes. In the book they eat the entire person. I do have the theory at this moment it has something to do with the peculiar soul being in the foot. (I can understand that being changed cause some of y’all are weird freaks fr). There’s so much of my perspective that has spanned over almost 10 years because of the final pages in the book. Why did Caul keep his powers!? HOW did he keep them, too? I can’t wait to read Library of Souls (FOR MY FIRST TIME! 🥳) But for now, I’m going to read Tales of the Peculiar and then move to book three!
This felt like such a downer, and made me unsure about continuing the series when I checked how long the series actually was. I rated it highly because I do think that if I were in middle school this would have been my jam. It was nice to learn about more Peculiar abilities, creatures, and lore.
The whole thing was amazing and i dont have actual words to describe it! i found myself truly wanting to be apart of discovering these interesting peculiar loops and being terrified to be in the midst of their war as well as what was a very detailed depiction of London during WW2. The end had me emotionally all over the place and i am excited to jump into the 3rd book immediately!
I am in love with the series
