The Teacher

By Freida McFadden

A mind-bending, psychological thriller from Freida McFadden, the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Housemaid!

Lesson #1: trust no one

Eve has a good life. She gets up each day, gets a kiss from her husband Nate, and heads off to teach math at the local high school. All is as it should be. Except…

Last year, Caseham High was rocked by a scandal involving a student-teacher affair, with one student, Addie, at its center. But Eve knows there is far more to these ugly rumors than meets the eye.

Addie can't be trusted. She lies. She hurts people. She destroys lives. At least, that's what everyone says.

But nobody knows the real Addie. Nobody knows the secrets that could destroy her. And Addie will do anything to keep it quiet.

This was my first Freida McFadden book and I plan to read more of her books. As far as this particular book goes, I have to say that parts of it were more than a little difficult to read. But because she made me feel something, I have to give her credit. That final twist at the very end, like literally on the last page, made me dizzy! I'd have to say that I enjoyed finding out what was going to happen next, while at the same time eventually hating all of the characters invovled. Well, almost all of them.

I wasn't super impressed this time around. Usually I love her books. I just couldn't get in to the story line of it. It wasn't bad but wasn't the of her books.

The Teacher by Freida McFadden is a twisty psychological thriller that follows Addie, a high school student with a tragic past, and Eve, her mysterious English teacher who seems to know more than she lets on. When a scandal rocks the school and a student turns up dead, secrets start to unravel—both in the classroom and beyond. As the line between right and wrong blurs, the truth becomes harder to uncover... and even more dangerous. The Teacher by Freida McFadden was by far my favorite Freida read! The thrill, the twist, the second twist, the third twist—every chapter had me audibly gasping. I was so hooked, I couldn’t put it down. The story flips between Addie, a troubled student with a tragic past, and Eve, a high school English teacher who finds herself tangled in a student’s death and a trail of chilling secrets. As both women’s stories unravel, you’re pulled deeper into a web of deception, guilt, and moral gray areas—and just when you think you’ve figured it all out, McFadden hits you with another twist. Fans of jaw-dropping psychological thrillers, especially those who love Freida McFadden’s signature short chapters and twisty storytelling, will devour this one. If you're into dark academia vibes, morally gray characters, and plots where no one is quite who they seem—The Teacher will be right up your alley.

The narrative swings back and forth between two central protagonists (three if you count the second and third parts of the book late on). Eve is a woman who seemingly has it all. She’s got a gorgeous husband, a well-respected job as a Math teacher and she gets to buy all the shoes she can possibly want. The only trouble is, she’s not happy with her husband, Nate. And she wants a way out.
