The Teacher

A mind-bending, psychological thriller from Freida McFadden, the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Housemaid!

Lesson #1: trust no one

Eve has a good life. She gets up each day, gets a kiss from her husband Nate, and heads off to teach math at the local high school. All is as it should be. Except…

Last year, Caseham High was rocked by a scandal involving a student-teacher affair, with one student, Addie, at its center. But Eve knows there is far more to these ugly rumors than meets the eye.

Addie can't be trusted. She lies. She hurts people. She destroys lives. At least, that's what everyone says.

But nobody knows the real Addie. Nobody knows the secrets that could destroy her. And Addie will do anything to keep it quiet.

The Teacher by Freida McFadden is a gripping psychological thriller that will keep you on edge until the very last page. If you love dark secrets, unexpected twists, and morally complex characters, this book is a must-read! The story follows Eve, a high school English teacher at a prestigious private school. She’s well-liked, dedicated, and seems to have everything together. But when a new student, Addie, joins her class, things start to unravel. Addie is sharp, observant, and a little too curious—especially about Eve’s past. You see, Eve has a secret. A huge one. And Addie? She seems to know something—but how? As Addie pushes and probes, Eve becomes more paranoid. Someone is leaving her disturbing messages, and it feels like her carefully constructed life is crumbling. The book keeps you guessing: Who is Addie really? What is Eve hiding? And how far will she go to protect her secret? This is the kind of story that makes you question how well you really know the people around you. What do you all think—how much should a teacher’s past matter? And at what point does protecting yourself become dangerous?

I really wanted to like this book. I try not to judge a book on whether I like the characters but I didn’t find one redeeming person in the whole book. All but one of the plot twists was predictable and that one unraveled eventually. I had a hard time believing that Eve did not know a student at her school. Creepy book!
