The Boyfriend

A new, twisting thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Teacher and The Housemaid!

She's looking for the perfect man. He's looking for the perfect victim.

Sydney Shaw, like every single woman in New York, has terrible luck with dating. She's seen it all: men who lie in their dating profile, men who stick her with the dinner bill, and worst of all, men who can't shut up about their mothers. But finally, she hits the jackpot.

Her new boyfriend is utterly perfect. He's charming, handsome, and works as a doctor at a local hospital. Sydney is swept off her feet.

Then the brutal murder of a young woman--the latest in a string of deaths across the coast--confounds police. The primary suspect? A mystery man who dates his victims before he kills them.

Sydney should feel safe. After all, she is dating the guy of her dreams. But she can't shake her own suspicions that the perfect man may not be as perfect as he seems. Because someone is watching her every move, and if she doesn't get to the truth, she'll be the killer's next victim...

A dark story about obsession and the things we'll do for love, #1 New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden proves that crimes of passion are often the bloodiest...

I have yet to read a Freida McFadden that I don’t enjoy. This is my fourth and I think I’m getting closer to predicting the outcome. Always an enjoyable read for me

This was my first Frieda McFadden book, and while I liked it, I didn’t love it. I found some of the characters frustratingly naive, which made them a bit annoying at times. However, the ending completely caught me by surprise, and I loved that part the most. I just wish there had been more unexpected twists throughout, as much of the story felt predictable.

The protagonists stupidity just made me so angry. Decent twist that I did not expect but I can’t help but feel like the story shouldn’t have even happened if the main character had any sense of self preservation.

While I was unable to get a physical copy in time, it was just as well because the audiobook was so much fun to listen to. Admittedly, it took some time for me to come around to it.

Between the uninteresting main character Sydney Shaw and her equally dull friends, their boring dating woes (including the ridiculous stalker), and the casual fatphobia and appearance appraisals (

We all thought the main character was insane in the membrane & wanted her to perish for her bad actions! We share sympathy for Tom, but not enough to excuse anything.
