Welcome to Big Comfy Couch

My goal is to create a small community of friends who read together and have regular discussions to share our opinions and thoughts for each title. Please always remember Minimum Participation is required here.

Everyone's opinions and ideas are important to me so voting in the polls, RSVP for meetings, attending meetings, recommending books are all activities vital to our success and your enjoyment. If you don't interact with us, why join? Please jump in with both feet .. I promise you won't regret it!

Minimum Participation means:

1. Be responsive to club messages even if you just click the thumbs up

2. Vote in ALL polls

3. RSVP to all meetings, a no works if you cant make it.

4. Answering any DM from the admin team.

The atmosphere here is relaxed and fun. We read 3 books a month in a variety of genres, although thrillers seems to be our favorite! There are no minimum reading requirements here. Additionally, I love bringing in authors to join us at least once month. Our goal is too enjoy some books, have great conversations and enjoy each other's company. Even if you don't read the book, feel free to join in the meetings! We discuss each book in enough detail that you can enjoy the conversation and participate in club business.

Participation begins immediately so check the posted meetings and poll sections often! 

When: 1st, 3rd and Last Saturday of every month

NOTE: 3rd Saturday of EVERY month is what I think of as our "main" meeting each month; which includes Author Spotlight Night. If you only want to attend 1 meeting per month, this is the meeting for that type of interest.

AS - Author Spotlights mean the author of the book on the schedule will join our meeting and participate in our discussion. (except December). Additionally, I do often invited the authors of the books we select as group 1 month in advance to join our discussions so when the author agrees, it's a bonus Author Spotlight!

What Time: 7:30pm EST

How: Via Zoom (link and meeting info attached to each scheduled meeting)

NEWLY ADDED: Once a month, wrap-up Meeting - Sunday afternoon @ 3:30 pm, EST - this meeting is always the day after the last Saturday of the month. On occasion, authors will join us for these meetings too!

Big Comfy Couch Basics

Anyone can recommend a book by telling me at the end of a meeting, posting a message in the club or privately to me or within in the app, books we want to read section. Books are added during the month and then at the end of the month we post a 2RON2R poll for everyone to vote, yes or no if they would be interested in reading the suggested title.

60% or more member support puts the title on our main reading list, aka Spin2Read list.

What is Spin2Read?

I have a Wheel that I load up titles of books on our TBR and we spin that wheel 3 times to randomly select the books we will vote for whatever meeting we are selecting books. Members pick 1 of the 3 they want to read and that book is added to the schedule. The other two books remain on our TBR until they are read. Typically this is how we schedule what books to read on the 1st & Last Saturdays of the month as the AS/main meetings are scheduled months in advance. We call this process Spin2Read.
