How far would you go to find The One?
A simple DNA test is all it takes. Just a quick mouth swab and soon you'll be matched with your perfect partner--the one you're genetically made for.
That's the promise made by Match Your DNA. A decade ago, the company announced that they had found the gene that pairs each of us with our soul mate. Since then, millions of people around the world have been matched. But the discovery has its downsides: test results have led to the breakup of countless relationships and upended the traditional ideas of dating, romance and love.
Now five very different people have received the notification that they've been "Matched." They're each about to meet their one true love. But "happily ever after" isn't guaranteed for everyone. Because even soul mates have secrets. And some are more shocking than others...
A word-of-mouth hit in the United Kingdom, The One is a fascinating novel that shows how even the simplest discoveries can have complicated consequences.

The One explores some really big questions: what love is, whether soulmates exist, and what it means to build identity through connection. I wasn’t hooked the whole way through, but I appreciated the concept and how the story played with it. The twists helped keep the pace up, and the multiple POVs ended up working for me. I actually liked that the characters weren’t fully fleshed out; it suited the way their stories wrapped up. Each one gave just enough for you to imagine where they might go next.
I wouldn’t call this a universal recommendation. It’s not a strong five stars, but if you’re into speculative fiction with a psychological edge, it’s worth a shot.
At first was a little cumbersome to follow the main characters, however, once into each of their storylines and their own torturous plot, I loved the twists!! Definitely Netflix material.
The individual stories seemed to lack some depth that made it feel like the book was dragging on. I think he could have cut the stories much shorter in the front end, had the major twist happen slightly earlier and spent a good portion of the back end resolving the fall out. Instead it was like all of the excitement was built into the end and left me wanting to know more (but not in a good way?).
**Came back to lower my rating to a 4 after seeing the author’s suggested discussion questions. They confirmed, for me, that he had no point of view.
