"A twisty, roller coaster ride of a debut. Fans of
Gone Girl will embrace this equally evocative tale." --Lisa Gardner, #1 New York Times bestselling author

"I've been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she has her dry cleaning done, where she works. I don't know the color of her eyes or what they look like when she's scared. But I will."

One night, Mia Dennett enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn't show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. At first Colin Thatcher seems like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia's life.

When Colin decides to hide Mia in a secluded cabin in rural Minnesota instead of delivering her to his employers, Mia's mother, Eve, and detective Gabe Hoffman will stop at nothing to find them. But no one could have predicted the emotional entanglements that eventually cause this family's world to shatter.

An addictively suspenseful and tautly written thriller, The Good Girl is a propulsive debut that reveals how even in the perfect family, nothing is as it seems.

Mystery. Thriller. Suspense. Nope. Nope. And Nope. This book was closer to a fairytale retelling than a mystery, thriller, or suspense. I was highly disappointed. I was expecting to read a terrifying book where a girl is kidnapped in a cabin in the woods with a madman. Instead? This book is about a 24 year old woman who gets “kidnapped”/saved by a hot guy who she falls in love with. To me, it resembled a lot of Beauty and the Beast... except this isn’t a couple that is easy to root for. It’s borderline Stockholm Syndrome. I was just confused by this book... like what was the point? There is no mystery besides figuring out why Mia/Chloe has amnesia... which to me, isn’t a strong enough plot point to read this book.
Then you have this weird side story where Mia/Chloe’s mom starts to like/date the detective who’s in charge of finding her daughter. The mom is still married, which I get to a degree, the dad is an asshole... but... but... I’m just confused on how that side story was supposed to strengthen the plot.
This book is filled with messed up relationships, timid women, and absolutely no element of suspense.
If you are a huge mystery/thriller fan like I am, I wouldn’t suggest reading this book.

This book left me wanting more. The moment you think you have it all figured out, it gets turned upside down. A must read.

Want to know how The Good Girl, Gone Girl & Girl on the Train are similar? They all have girl in the title. I'm glad I didn't know anything about The Good Girl before I started reading it. Much better to have no or little expectations before reading or listening to all the hype. This is a great debut novel about a kidnapping/abduction that goes seriously wrong. Or did it? Loved the alternating voices of the detective, the mom & the kidnapper. Loved that it was written before & after said kidnapping. Loved how it all came together at the end. Loved how people were not always as they seemed. Except for the dad, he was a real jerk. Read to find out why. It was not completely believable (especially the dad's role) but still a great read.
