"Local Woman Missing" presents a narrative that intertwines the stories of two women who vanished from their neighborhood eleven years ago. Fast forward to the present day, where a teenage girl escapes her captors and crosses paths with a woman linked to the earlier disappearances in a startling way. the book employs multiple points of view and jumps between timelines, shifting from the present to the past. at first, you might find yourself scratching your head over Kate’s perspective and how she fits into this intricate puzzle. trust me, her connection plays a pivotal role —though, in my opinion, the big reveal regarding Shelby wasn't quite the bombshell i expected. Leo, his character comes off as incredibly unsympathetic, bordering on downright unlikeable, which adds an interesting layer to the story. the writing and narration—especially in the audiobook format—had me feeling a bit detached at times. it's as if the pacing dragged in the middle, while the initial mystery captivated me. the story starts strong with the intense perspective of a kidnapped teen, but it settles into a more measured pace before kicking into high gear around the 70-80% mark. overall, "Local Woman Missing" turned out to be a mixed bag for me. while i appreciated the concept and the way it kept unfolding, it wasn’t a book i would have gravitated toward on my own—my book club prompted me to dive in! it’s enjoyable in its own right, but it left me wanting a bit more.

This was a fast read and hard to put down, but a little too neatly tied up at the rushed ending. Very disturbing at times, and confusing at others, but a thriller nonetheless.
