I should probably say this book is closer to a 4 star. I really like this author's style of writing (alternating POV's), suspenseful storyline. New residents Sadie & Will inherit a family house in a Maine coastal town. Soon after arriving, there is a murder and Sadie becomes obsessed with what happened. At first, it felt like I was reading two different stories but I've read other books by Kubica and I knew they would somehow come together. It just took awhile. The story dragged in the middle for me but around 80%, it really started to pick up and it was full of twisty turns. It was definitely a fast paced thriller with dysfunctional characters that will keep you guessing until the end.
This is a dark book. Yes there were dark themes, but, felt that the book was written in grey tones- rain, night, snow- in Maine. I guessed the main plot twist halfway through the book. If I had not been on vacation with time to push through the book, I imagine it would have taken much longer to finish. The medical portions of Will's sister's Fibro was irritating- her condition didn't seem to fit the profile. Being a doc who treats Fibro for the last 20 years, I've never seen someone commit suicide because of this condition. And the plot twist is very rare even controversial. But I guess I was willing to suspend belief. 2.75-3 stars for me.
This was my first time reading a book by this author. There were lots of twist and turns, and it kept me engaged. However, it was somewhat predictable. There were some nice little plot twist at the end. Definitely want to give another one of her books to try and see how it compares.
This book was a fun read but it was highly predictable and kinda rushed at the end. I feel like there were a lot of things that were drawn out that didn’t needed to be in the middle as well. It’s def interesting though!
I took a short break from psychological thrillers because I was able to predict what was going to happen while reading it. This book startled me as I couldn't figure it out!
Mary Kubica is a brilliant PT writer and I would recommend her books to anyone that enjoys this genre as much as I do
