Every Last Lie: A Thrilling Suspense Novel from the author of Local Woman Missing

New York Times bestselling author of THE GOOD GIRL Mary Kubica is back with another exhilarating thriller as a widow's pursuit of the truth leads her to the darkest corners of the psyche.

Clara Solberg's world shatters when her husband and their four-year-old daughter are in a car crash, killing Nick while Maisie is remarkably unharmed. The crash is ruled an accident...until the coming days, when Maisie starts having night terrors that make Clara question what really happened on that fateful afternoon.

Tormented by grief and her obsession that Nick's death was far more than just an accident, Clara is plunged into a desperate hunt for the truth. Who would have wanted Nick dead? And, more important, why? Clara will stop at nothing to find out--and the truth is only the beginning of this twisted tale of secrets and deceit.

Told in the alternating perspectives of Clara's investigation and Nick's last months leading up to the crash, master of suspense Mary Kubica weaves her most chilling thriller to date--one that explores the dark recesses of a mind plagued by grief and shows that some secrets might be better left buried.

I generally enjoy Mary Kubica novels, so this was an easy choice for me. This time, though, I was most interested in viewing how she handled writing in dual timelines AND multiple voices (and they’re a number of them!) because that’s my style of writing as well. There’s a lot going on in this novel, and I found myself flipping back to previous pages, which is okay. . . nothing wrong with double checking on which character is up to no good during a different time period.

14% and abandoned. While the prologue got my attention and felt intriguing, by the end of the first chapter I just couldn’t. There were both a few too many implausibility’s and contradictions to overlook. Additionally, the writing was too choppy, abrupt. What an early reader would read like.

I really wanted to like this book more. It was suspenseful and you could feel the tension rising but nothing really happens. I guess I'd call it a page turner because I read it quickly. I kept waiting to see how it was going to play out but the ending was a bit of a letdown. Told in alternating voices, present day Clara and Nick, before the accident, Clara's world shatters when her husband Nick is in a devastating car accident killing him while leaving their 4 year old daughter unharmed. Clara has just given birth to their second child 4 days before the accident. Nick has offered to take 4 year old Maisie to ballet so Clara can rest at home with new baby. In her grief, Clara begins to question if it really was an accident. She begins to suspect everyone and starts investigating the accident on her own. In the months leading up to the accident, we learn more about Nick's character and the reasons behind the decisions he is making. I really liked Nick. I think he wanted to provide the best for his young family and he felt enormous pressure trying to do so. Should he have shared these things with Clara? Probably but he was trying to spare her any stress, especially in the last months of her pregnancy. He thought he could turn things around before his world was destroyed. I had a harder time liking Clara. She became so obsessive after her husband's death even though it was ruled an accident. I still like the writing style of Mary Kubica but this was my least favorite one.

Ok ok ok. I agree with the other reviewers. Meredith is a bit of a dummy. But I really enjoy how Kubica pulls you into the story. Yes I was reading to procrastinate and this tale did the job intended. I read this book in a night, a little late into the night.

I did end up figuring out who the kidnapper/killer was but I didn’t expect that plot twist
