An Affair in Munthill

I absolutely love the author Takerra Allen. This was yet another masterpiece. Small town girls getting their worlds shaken up by some city boys and vice versa. As always, Allen did an awesome job of creating dynamic characters with their own storylines that drive the plot of this book. Excellent writing. However, this is the first book I’ve read by her where every single character’s conflict did not come full circle. Gloria was a piece of work. Everyone had their own mess that they had stand in, and we got to see their character come full circle some way some how. Except Gloria. She was never held accountable for her actions. Everyone involved either already knows how she truly is or they have a moment of realization, especially her sister Gaby and Gaby’s love interest Power. But where is the real moment of accountability for her? Where is that face your sister and Power together and own what you did? Same with her and Rich. We can infer that she and Rich will likely fall apart because no matter what he gives her, it will never be enough. We can see that coming, but Allen has never left readers to have to make such strong inferences. She usually makes every single character accountable as she concludes their storyline. I am so angry to not see that happen with Gloria. I REALLY hope there will eventually be a second book to bring things together for Munthill and the characters because Gloria ruined the possibility of growth for her town, a friendship between two men who were like brothers, and the bond between her and her sister. There is so much that can be created in a second book to bring everyone full circle collectively.

I enjoyed this read but hated how it ended.. Gabrielle was a single mom to son and the father was deadbeat.. she was maintaining but kind of living check to check.. her sister Gloria was considered the beauty queen but had been ran thru looking for love.. then came Rich and his team who were in town trying to bring a casino business to town, along with his partners Mavi aka Power, Simon, Sabrina and Lena.. Rich was smitten with Gloria and she was intrigued by his money.. Power became interested in Gabby and they had a slow burn romance, but it was so intoxicating and enticing.. some deception and drama happens thru out.. Rich proposes, but has a baby on the way and Gloria feels threatened and purposely gets pregnant as well & makes his promise not to be in the child’s life.. I really hate that Gloria never got to take accountability for her deceit and lies, especially ruining Rich and Power’s friendship.. and I also feel that Gabby went overboard about Power’s past.. they spent time apart and came back together, but I still feel like the ending was somewhat unresolved.. but still enjoyed.. her friend Mia was funny
