I’m so deep into my feelings with this series! Why Vin? Why????? But at the same time, why Tahli? Why???? These people love each other. Hard. But they are sabotaging what they have. One does it through self sabotage by reverting to habits when the pressure s on and the other does it through self righteous judgement by way of hurtful words that provoke and trigger actions. I know these are fictitious characters, but people actually do this to one another. Again, the realness and humanity in this series is overwhelming. This is an emotional ride that makes you reflect. AND CRY!
At the end of Book1 we learned that Tahli and Dalvin divorced, attempting co-parenting, along with Tahli being newly engaged to Drew. In Book2 the layers are peeled back and the journey on “the hows, whys, what” in depth on how we got to this place. Lots and lots of layers unpacked. And I truly empathize and see all sides and understanding of the whys, even when I may not agree. Vin didn’t kill Sophie, as she was dealing with depression and overdosed on prescription pills she had been taking. She could never get over the fact that she wasn’t “the chosen one”. And was super resentful and jealous of Tahli. She still couldn’t see past the superficial and felt like she was prettier. We learned that Sophie attempted to tell Vin at his father’s funeral that she was pregnant, however she didn’t get a chance to. Her mother called Vin as Sophie went into early labor at 5months and baby boy Michael was born and died. Vin went to hospital and got to hold his 1st born prior to baby being cremated. This may be the reason why Vin was so passionate about Tahli not aborting when he learned she was pregnant. Which also hurt Sophie as well and sent her spiraling further after learning Tahli was pregnant and they had gotten married. Vin felt sorry for Sophie and because her mother had expressed Sophie desire to kill herself to Vin, he tried to be there for her from a distance which ended up with him being in compromising situations. Tahli’s need for perfection and what others think or would think sometimes clouded her judgment and got the way of her true feelings. She accepted Vin back after infidelity with Sharonda but swore on her 1st born it would be over, no questions asked if it ever happened again. So when she learned of DJ she really felt betrayed and felt like everything they shared was a lie. After his release from jail, he and Tahli had an in depth talk about what really took place and tried to shed light on how it happened. When Tahli was pregnant with the 2nd child Milo, she somewhat had a breakdown and lashed out on Vin, which sent him to Sophie and that was how DJ happened. He felt terrible and never cheated again, however that 1 last cheat, however innocent or not so innocent the situation was, is what brought us to this place. This sequel ends on cliffhanger while Vin is out on a date, attempting normalcy while Tahli is engaged to Drew and he gets frantic call from Dali informing that her mom was in the hospital.. he left his date and drove to hospital.. Book 2 was alot but so good.. definitely another emotional roller coaster.
