About Latina + Indigenous Women’s Book Club: Stories, Food & Culture

About the Book Club

A welcoming space to connect through meaningful books, delicious food, culture, and shared stories.

Our book club celebrates the power of stories, recipes, and cultural memory. We gather to read and discuss works by Indigenous, Native, Chicana/o/x, Latina/o/x, and Hispanic voices through literature, storytelling, oral history, food traditions, and cultural memory. We believe literature can nourish community in the same way shared meals do.

How It Works

We’ll meet once a month to discuss a book that we have chosen together. Each month, members will be encouraged to read the selected book before our gathering so that we can have meaningful conversations, share different perspectives, and connect the themes of the book to our own experiences, cultures, and communities.

And because we believe food and stories go hand in hand, our gatherings will also include opportunities to share food, recipes, and cultural traditions connected to the books we read.

We’ll start small and grow together as our community grows. Our monthly gatherings will take place throughout Solano County and the surrounding area, including Benicia, Vallejo, American Canyon, Napa, and with the possibility of gathering in Vacaville/Fairfield as our group expands.

Whether you’re an avid reader or simply looking for a community where you can discover new authors, cultures, and stories, we’d love for you to join us.
