Solito: A Read with Jenna Pick: A Memoir

A memoir as gripping as it is moving, Solito provides an immediate and intimate account not only of a treacherous and near-impossible journey, but also of the miraculous kindness and love delivered at the most unexpected moments. Solito is Javier Zamora’s story, but it’s also the story of millions of others who had no choice but to leave home.

Really captures the inner 9 year old even though it's been 20 years since the author made the journey. It's hard to imagine how desperate parents would have to be to subject a young child to the trauma and uncertainty of such a journey and the courage and presence of mind such a young child would have to muster to make the journey.

Truly a masterpiece. Gut wrenching and heartbreaking but a beautiful story.

What an incredible, moving story, and that he was able to carry those memories and write about them years later... I hope he finds his "family" through this book!

I really enjoyed this book. It tells the story through a child’s perspective. Definitely read to understand what immigrants do what they do.

3.75 ⭐️ Wow! What an incredible story about some insane bravery from a 9 year old. Points off bc there was just like so much bathroom habit talk (which I guess tracks for a 9 year old perspective!?) and also several parts that were in Spanish and didn’t have a translation and no hablo mucho espanol.
