About Francie’s Book Club

“The world was hers for the reading.”

Inspired by the book-loving Francie Nolan of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Francie’s Book Club aims to build meaningful connections between women in their 20s and 30s through a shared love of literature.

We meet in-person once a month on Saturday in various public locations in Manhattan. Book selections are typically classics and literary fiction, with flexibility depending on members’ interests.

Club norms:

Foster a warm and welcoming environment.

This club is first and foremost meant to be a space for friendship and meaningful connection. Please do your part in making this club as inclusive and welcoming as possible.

Be mindful of the conversation.

We want everyone to have a chance to contribute, so that means speaking up when appropriate & listening to others well. As a rule, listen more than you speak. Don’t dominate the conversation. Keep your contributions focused on the book. Be open to the direction of the facilitator.

Read the book.

In order to have a meaningful group discussion, please come prepared having read the book. If there were any passages or themes that stood out to you, make a note of it. We want to hear about it! If you couldn’t finish the book in time and still want to attend, please allow the conversation to be led by people who finished the book (and be aware that spoilers will be inevitable).

RSVP at least one week in advance.

Some locations required paid reservations, so please let us know early if you can make it or not. If you cancel too close to the meeting date, you may be subject to a cancellation fee that will cover the cost of your spot.

Be respectful, inclusive, and curious.

This book club is designed to be a welcoming space of connection. If you disagree with someone, please do so with respect and curiosity. No personal attacks or harassment is allowed. Members who create an unsafe environment for others are subject to permanent removal.
