Banned Bitches

We are the Banned Bitches: a cozy book club in Omaha, where the books are the excuse, but the friendships, beautifully unhinged conversations, and advocacy are the point.

We meet at least twice a month: book meets are every third Sunday, and social events are planned collectively each month. Sometimes our outings are book-themed, but sometimes they’re simply a reason to spend time together. Making and keeping friends as an adult should not be this hard.

Food and atmosphere matter. Catching up over a bite to eat comes first and foremost, followed by book talk. Think casual, potluck-style food, potentially book-themed because we can't help ourselves.

Each month, we collectively choose a new genre or theme to keep things interesting and expand our reading horizons. Everyone nominates one or two books, then we rank and vote through the Bookclubs app. We aim for books around 400 pages or less with strong discussion potential, solid reviews, and accessible formats like library copies, paperback, Kindle, or audiobook.

Our discussions are structured enough to keep us focused, but tangent-friendly enough to let the conversation breathe. We value consistency, respectful discussion, regular communication, and people who want to read books and build friendships.

Do your damnedest to read the book, even if it’s not your cup of tea. Use this as an excuse to slow down, take time for yourself, and enjoy the little things. But also, life happens. If you don’t finish, show up anyway. We want you here.
