Banned Bitches

We're a band of misfit millennials(ish) in Omaha, where the books bring us together, but the friendships, community, beautifully unhinged conversations, and advocacy are what keep us showing up. 🖤

We try to meet at least twice a month: book club is on the fourth Sunday of every month at noon, and we try to meet once a month for something social. Sometimes we do something book-themed, sometimes we show up for a cause we care about, and sometimes we simply set aside time to do something together, because making and keeping friends as an adult should not be this hard.

Each month, we collectively choose a new genre or theme to keep things interesting and expand our reading horizons. Everyone nominates a book, then we rank and vote through Bookclubs (app/web). We aim for books around 200-400 pages with good ratings, and accessible formats like library copies, paperback, Kindle, etc.

We meet in homes, cafés, bookstores, libraries, and other cozy public spaces depending on the month, the host, and what makes sense for the group. We want to actually know and support one another. Catching up over a bite to eat and having real conversations is part of how we become more than a group that simply gets together to talk about books.

We use Bookclubs (app/web) for RSVPs, meetings, social events, polls, food sign-ups, and planning. A “Yes” means you’re planning to be there, and a “Maybe” is treated as a “No” for planning purposes because we can’t plan around Schrödinger’s book-club attendee. 😅

Lastly, please make a genuine effort to read the book. If you don’t finish, we understand that life happens (and when it does, we still want your hot self here), but we do need enough people engaged with the book for book club to actually be book club. 📚
