Winter (Lunar)

Soon to be adapted into a major motion picture!

The final book in the #1 New York Times- and USA Today-Bestselling Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. As the story draws to a close, our team of fairytale heroines must join forces with wicked Levana's own stepdaughter to stop the evil space queen once and for all—or lose everything.

"An interesting mash up of fairy tales and science fiction . . . a cross between Cinderella, Terminator, and Star Wars." —Entertainment Weekly on the Lunar Chronicles

She was not a girl of ice and glass at all, but a girl of sunshine and stardust, because Jacin wasn’t going to die.

Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won't approve of her feelings for her childhood friend—the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn't as weak as Levana believes her to be and she's been undermining her stepmother's wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that's been raging for far too long. Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?

Why must the stars only go up to 5?

There might be some spoilers down below. You've been warned.

At first I was sure that I liked Cress more, fore a while there Winter just wasn't doing it for me. But I was wrong, this book was just as great as the others, especially towards the end. If you are also having a hard time with this book I would recommend you give it until the middle at least, I know it's long but I think that if you're a fan of the series it's really worth it. Mainly what prompted me to give it five whole stars in spite of the rough start, which would usually be four stars for me, is that it was such a great end to the series. When they succeeded I was really worried that Levana would come back for one more fight in all of the remaining time, then I realized that what was left was just the end. It worried me because sometimes, if not handled properly, going on for too long after the end of the last battle can ruin the ending, but I really think that The Lunar Chronicles needed it. It wasn't boring to read in the least, I really wanted to know about each one of the main characters and their couples. Sure, we all would've wanted to see Cinder become empress and Scarlett have weird mutant wolf cubs, but it's obviously not part of the story she had to tell, and anyway it's all implied and somehow you know that everything did really work out for them. I feel that the fairytale ending was fitting after all the darkness. By the way, I love and hate that "And they lived happily until the end of their days" simultaneously. I can't decide if it was better or not than happily ever after, but it was very much emotional. When you grow attached to these characters and watch them go through so much, it's nice to know that they really were all okay and whatever scenario you imagine for their future can be a good one. The only thing I would like to note is the unlikeliness that they all survived, as a fangirl I have absolutely no complains, but as a reader and writer I do feel it's a bit unrealistic even for a sci-fi novel. Another thing is that while it's easy to imagine everyone else doing fine after, Wolf eats people? Like, he has blood thirst so I imagine that would be a problem. Let's say they find a way to control him and make it work, this raises some political questions because all soldiers are supposed to go back to Luna. So supposing it was allowed because he and Scarlet helped save the world, it still leaves you to wonder what kind of life the rest of the soldiers were given. How could they possibly live freely and equally to other lunars when they could eat everyone? Anyway, I don't have much else to say about the book, I finished it last night so obviously I'm still in shock from the ending, might be making a few edits when my head is clear. For now I'll simply say that the author took the time she needed and did whatever she had to do to tell her story, this include the povs. At times I felt all the different points of views were to messy, but then I really iked hearing from all these different people and was glad they weren't missing. It's better to have a bit of a mess than feel like you missed out.

Fantastic ending, fantastic book, fantastic series.

I enjoyed this series, but I feel like the ending fell flat. It kinda just ended. The epic battle wasn't as epic as I was hoping.
