The new unputdownable novel from the “queen of the one-sit read,” and New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door
Nothing ever happens in sleepy little Fairhill, Vermont. But this morning that will change. And one innocent question could be deadly. What have you done?
The teenagers get their kicks telling ghost stories in the old graveyard. The parents trust their kids will arrive home safe from school. Everyone knows everyone. Curtains rarely twitch. Front doors are left unlocked.
But Diana Brewer isn’t lying safely in her bed where she belongs. Instead she lies in a hayfield, circled by vultures, discovered by a local farmer.
How quickly a girl becomes a ghost. How quickly a town of friendly, familiar faces becomes a town of suspects, a place of fear and paranoia.
Someone in Fairhill did this. Everyone wants answers.

For starters—I love me some Shari, okay?
BUT...for some reason, I had this one on my shelf for a very long time with zero desire to read it. Then I tried to read it and got like a page into it and I put it back on the shelf (NRN?). I finally read it and I'm happy I did but it def wasn't a super favorite 🥲
It had slight Ask For Andrea vibes with the ghost POV, but I felt it wasn't done nearly as well and was at times...unnecessary.
The only thing that pushed me through was wanting to know who was the murderer and even then it was a bit obvious.
This one was weird, I usually LOVE Shari Lapena's books.
Read it if you want, but you're good if you skip it.
This was a great read! Most of the characters were likable! I did speculate who the killer was! I did really like the slight supernatural features throughout the book. I wish it would have been more of the supernatural theme. I truly enjoy Shari Lapena's books!
I enjoyed this one by shari lake a much more then the first book Ive read from her. It was an easy read I found my self interested in each characters relation with the main character.
I've read several Shari Lapena novels, and this one is my favorite so far. It is a fast-paced twisty thriller. A good combination of writing, dialogue, and characters to keep us guessing until the end without a ridiculous over the top plot. The story begins with the discovery of the dead body of Diana in a rural field in Vermont. Diana was a young and pretty high school who was murdered and left in an isolated field. As each character is introduced, we learn of a connection to Diana. Several people are suspects, the community is paranoid, and everyone wants answers. The story is told from multiple POV's, including Diana's which I really liked, in short fast paced chapters. Her best friends, Riley and Evan, take an active role in the investigation. I didn't care for the ghost story/paranormal elements (Ouija board) of the story. The author's note at the end explains the reasoning behind this but I thought it was just meh. :/ I would not call this book a ghost story.
I love her writing style
