She Didn't See It Coming: A Novel

An instant New York Times bestseller!
“Stunning. Fiendishly plotted with whiplash twists and turns — Shari Lapena is at the very top of her game here. [She Didn't See It Coming] might be my favorite yet!” —Lucy Foley
The new gripping novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door
When a beloved wife and mother disappears, a luxurious condo building transforms into a potential crime scene, and the investigation begins: can the detectives find her before it's too late?
Bryden and Sam have it all: thriving careers, a smart apartment in a luxury condominium, supportive friends and a cherished daughter. The perfect life for the perfect couple.
Then Sam receives a call at his office. Bryden – working from home that day – has failed to collect their daughter from daycare. Arriving home with their little girl, he finds his wife’s car in the underground garage. Upstairs in their apartment her laptop is open on the table, her cell phone nearby, her keys in their usual place in the hall.
Except Bryden is nowhere to be seen. It’s as if she just walked out.
How can she have disappeared from her own home? And did she even leave the building at all?
With every minute that passes – and as questions swirl around their community – Bryden and Sam’s past seems a little less perfect, their condominium less safe, their friends, neighbors and relatives no longer quite so reliable . . .

Another Shari Lapena that didn't disappoint! Would love a sequel as well with Detective Salter-side character. Bryden, a wife and mother of a 3 year old girl goes missing. Sam, her husband, is overwhelmed and distraught. Her sister tries to hold the family together, keep her parents attended as well. Bryden isn't the kind of person to just leave..or is she?
Fun fact: The very first suspense novel I read was by Shari Lapena. It boosted my new obsession for this genre and I haven't looked back since!
Since then I've read pretty much all of Shari's books and though I started loving them all - The Perfect Couple was my favorite - my enjoyment started to wane with her last 3-4 books. I think my issue was that after reading so many of her books I noticed the patterns and lost the awe factor in her books. They became very predictable. Until this one...
I was glad I gave SDSIC a chance because it was a great read and a dynamic listening experience, narrated by January LaVoy, one of my favorites.
A mom goes missing in the middle of the day - her phone and purse are at home. What happened to her? They say it’s always the husband, but the truth, in these unsettling cases, is rarely so simple.
Shari did a great job with building tension, suspense and suspicion in every character that was introduced. (And there were quite a few deviant characters who could’ve done it) I loved the investigation and the guesses from social media platforms.
One thing I didn’t care for was there was a side plot that seemed to just disappear in the end, but I needed it to be fleshed out a little more. Yes, I still felt she recycled some of her past overused scenes, but I guess this story came at the right time for me to well receive it and not be so cynical. January also kept me entertained and distracted, too.
I'd definitely recommend this for a fast paced story that will keep you guessing until the end!!
She Didn’t See It Coming was a pretty average thriller. It was a quick, easy read and held my attention, but it didn’t really surprise me. The twists weren’t all that shocking, and the characters felt a bit flat. Not a bad book—just not one that will stick with me for long.
