Everyone Here Is Lying: A Novel

A NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!
Another thrilling domestic suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Couple Next Door
“The most addictive book I've read in ages—so slick and disquieting and clever. Just brilliant.” —Lisa Jewell, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Family Remains
“Lapena is a master of manipulation.” —USA Today
Welcome to Stanhope. A safe neighborhood. A place for families.
William Wooler is a family man, on the surface. But he’s been having an affair, an affair that ended horribly this afternoon at a motel up the road. So when he returns to his house, devastated and angry, to find his difficult nine-year-old daughter, Avery, unexpectedly home from school, William loses his temper.
Hours later, Avery’s family declares her missing.
Suddenly Stanhope doesn’t feel so safe. And William isn’t the only one on his street who’s hiding a lie. As witnesses come forward with information that may or may not be true, Avery's neighbors become increasingly unhinged.
Who took Avery Wooler?
Nothing will prepare you for the truth.

This neighborhood? Let's just say it's serving piping hot tea and was so there for it!
I bought this book right before a trip and ended up reading it nonstop on the plane. Don't ask me where I was going—| genuinely couldn't tell you-but I do remember the book. Why? Because it was that good. Everyone Here Is Lying is one of those rare thrillers that completely consumes you from page one. The suspense, the pacing, the twists-they're all perfectly executed.
Shari Lapena has officially earned "auto-buy" status from me. If her name's on the cover, I'm picking it up-no questions asked. And honestly? This one should be an auto-buy for you, too.
The story opens with nine-year-old Avery Wooler disappearing, and from that moment on, you're pulled into the drama. The whole neighborhood is buzzing with secrets, lies, and suspicious behavior. It's the kind of place where everyone knows something-and trust me, they're all hiding more than they're saying. You'll spend the entire book questioning what really happened to Avery and who, if anyone, is telling the truth.
If you love thrillers set in picture-perfect suburbs full of drama, secrets, and jaw-dropping twists, this one's for you. Think neighborhood gossip meets high-stakes mystery-perfect for fans of domestic suspense with a side of scandal.
Favorite Quote: "Sometimes the lies people tell are more revealing than the truth."
Trigger Warnings: child disappearance, domestic violence (verbal and physical), infidelity, emotional manipulation, substance use (briefly mentioned)
Wasn't too sure at the start. The story was good but nothing special.
Then, as you go along, twists start to happen. Some are quite predictable, but it is still an enjoyable read.
I loved the ending to this book. So satisfying. Quick read and page turner. I didn’t have a favorite character. But I did love to hate the characters. A lot of unnecessary plot lines in my opinion.
I enjoyed this very much, I'm just not one who likes cliffhangers!
Everyone here is lying had a fair rating at best amongst the group. Was an easy read, the book has many main characters and this may have left less to the imagination in light of solving the mystery. The villains age was also questionable for some members but otherwise more than half would recommend to others. This was our first Bookclub book.
