Twisted (Never After, 4)

From BookTok sensation Emily McIntire comes a dark and delicious fractured fairy tale reimagining of Aladdin.

She's his diamond in the rough. He's her worst nightmare.

Yasmin Karam, daughter to one of the richest men in the world, has never known strife. So, when her beloved father falls ill, she's determined to make his final days his happiest. His last wish? To see her married to a man of his choosing. Except Yasmin's heart already belongs to someone else. A servant. A street rat. A man her father would never consider worthy. Stuck between a rock and a hard place, Yasmin strikes a desperate deal with her father's right-hand man, Julian, not realizing he has his own twisted agenda.

Julian Faraci has one goal: become the most powerful man in the world. He's built a future from broken bones and faded bruises, never caring who he hurt along the way. But when his mentor falls ill, he finds himself on the verge of losing everything, and he'll stop at nothing to inherit what is rightfully his. Even if it means forcing a woman he can't stand into marriage.

Yasmin is a brat who speaks out of turn, and he's the villain of her story. But he decides she'll be his--no matter what it takes to convince her.

Didn't enjoy this one as much as hooked or scarred but still enjoyed it. Probably because Julian wasn't as much of a villain as the others.

This is the least favorite out of this series. I love a good enemies to lovers slow-burn, but the fact it didn't really start to "burn" until like two-thirds of the way into the book and then they went to lovers too quickly. Also the two voices of the audio narrators didn't mesh well. Emily's spice is always on point, so no complaint there!

Julian had the potential to be my favorite MMC so far. I think some of the things I didn't like about this book effected the author's character building which in turn didn't allow him to fully shine.

I didn't like how the process from enemies to lovers was handled. I wouldn't have minded a little more groveling, especially considering both MCs hate each other and the FMC is in a relationship with another man. The turn from hating each other to love was so sudden and the build-up so dull, I had to go back to check if I hadn't miss anything. I was reading this on my kindle so I was concerned that a chapter was missing or it was out of order. As I said before, the character development suffered because of this. Also, the ending felt both rushed and a waste of time.

This book had the potential to be my favorite, but was just not executed as well as I had hoped.

This book was not bad! I like that Emily McIntire writes romance AND pulls from fantasy. This story followed one of my favorites “Aladdin” and was a nice and spicy book!
