The Princess became a Badass!
TWs: CSA (off page), death of a loved one, violence, kidnapping, BDSM.
I really liked this book. It was good to see that Eilish wasn’t this sheltered and pampered princess that the other books have kind of portrayed her as. She had a backbone and she was independent. She was smart and wasn’t as naive as we were to believe. Gavan was stubborn and abrasive at first but once we got to know him, I understood why he was that way. He felt that he couldn’t portray any feelings or weakness to anyone. Even his second in command had betrayed him, so he felt that no one could be trusted. It was cool to see the actual friendship/relationship develop between these two, even if it was a little unconventional at first. It was so hard to read about the things that both of them had been through as teens but I loved how they were able to eventually open up to each other. I also liked how accepting Eilish’s family was once everything came to light. It was nice that there wasn’t this divide or a choice that needed to be made like she thought there would be. This book had probably the least family involvement out of all of them in the series so far and I did miss some of those dynamics. I will definitely keep reading this series, I’m already in so deep.

3.5 ⭐
I haven't read anything from this author previously, and considering Mafia isn't my favorite genre.. I was pleasantly surprised.
A lot of the bratva meetings/politics weren't my thing. The spice was written well, aside from some repetitive dirty talk. I feel like the "standalone" part of "interconnected standalone" was executed well. It didn't feel like you were getting a ton of asides as repetitive background content.
Overall it was a good, quick read. I would happily read more ARCs or new things put out.
