Dante has been ordered to marry Maeve, Tempest’s “Aunt”, for business reasons. Once Tempest learns of this she immediately takes issue because Maeve has just barely turned 18. She decides to trick everyone so that she can take her place in order to help Maeve. Tempest has recently been diagnosed with a blood issue that isn’t curable and she was given 4-6 months to live. She feels she has nothing left to lose and that maybe by marrying Dante, she can find the answers and closure that she needs before she passes. Dante is immediately taken with Tempest but mostly because of her fire and inability to take an order from him. He likes how stubborn she is most of the time and he can see the trauma that she has been through. He sees through her mask and wants to know more about what caused her to pretend everything is ok. Dante had lost his parents young and so had Tempest. They had a lot of kindred things between them and their stories were oddly connected without their knowing. I really liked Dante because he was a man of his word. He wasn’t going to let anyone take that away from him. He was so sneaky and smart but constantly underestimated Tempest. I liked how she was determined to rewrite her narrative on certain things. She was his equal in so many ways but also his opposite. She seemed to ground him and give him a chance to feel things again. I did feel like there was too quick of a wrap up at the end. That everything fell into place a little too quickly. I would have liked to see them work through a few more things.
