To Sir Phillip, With Love: Bridgerton: Eloise's Story (Bridgertons, 5)

ELOISE’S STORY

Sir Phillip knew that Eloise Bridgerton was a spinster, and so he’d proposed, figuring that she’d be homely and unassuming, and more than a little desperate for an offer of marriage. Except . . . she wasn’t. The beautiful woman on his doorstep was anything but quiet, and when she stopped talking long enough to close her mouth, all he wanted to do was kiss her . . . and more.

Did he think she was mad? Eloise Bridgerton couldn’t marry a man she had never met! But then she started thinking . . . and wondering . . . and before she knew it, she was in a hired carriage in the middle of the night, on her way to meet the man she hoped might be her perfect match. Except . . . he wasn’t. Her perfect husband wouldn’t be so moody and ill-mannered, and while Phillip was certainly handsome, he was a large brute of a man, rough and rugged, and totally unlike the London gentlemen vying for her hand. But when he smiled . . . and when he kissed her . . . the rest of the world simply fell away, and she couldn’t help but wonder . . . could this imperfect man be perfect for her?

This story has been my least favorite in the series, so far. Eloise is one of my favorite characters in the show, but from the beginning of the books I wasn’t as big of a fan. I find her a bit annoying but it’s more about the fact I don’t feel her personality shine through. With that said I was excited to read her story to be able to see that and unfortunately I wasn’t hooked. I thought her running away was childish and to not even tell Phillip she was coming was weird. Not only that but Phillip wasn’t really what I would expect for Eloise so although I did like him and felt like he deserved nothing more than love, I didn’t love them together. I did like his children being a component in their story and of course happy with the outcome but I think the best way to describe this one is mediocre; nothing super special but not a bad read by any means, especially if you’re reading the rest of the series.

⭐️⭐️ A Huge Letdown for Eloise Eloise is one of the best Bridgertons—independent, witty, and not afraid to speak her mind. So I was really excited to read her story, but this book did not do her justice. The romance between Eloise and Phillip felt forced, and their lack of communication made their relationship feel tense rather than romantic. Phillip is one of the worst heroes in the series—brooding, emotionally unavailable, and completely clueless about how to handle a strong-willed woman like Eloise. Their dynamic felt imbalanced, and the way their relationship developed made no sense. The only saving grace was the scene where the Bridgerton brothers storm in to confront Phillip—it was dramatic, ridiculous, and honestly the best part of the book. But beyond that, this story felt disjointed and underwhelming.
