# 1 New York Times Bestseller

ANTHONY’S STORY

This time the gossip columnists have it wrong. London’s most elusive bachelor Anthony Bridgerton hasn’t just decided to marry—he’s even chosen a wife! The only obstacle is his intended’s older sister, Kate Sheffield—the most meddlesome woman ever to grace a London ballroom. The spirited schemer is driving Anthony mad with her determination to stop the betrothal, but when he closes his eyes at night, Kate’s the woman haunting his increasingly erotic dreams...

Contrary to popular belief, Kate is quite sure that reformed rakes do not make the best husbands—and Anthony Bridgerton is the most wicked rogue of them all. Kate’s determined to protect her sister—but she fears her own heart is vulnerable. And when Anthony’s lips touch hers, she’s suddenly afraid she might not be able to resist the reprehensible rake herself...

Again, I watched the Netflix season before reading this one. I love Anthony and Kate. However, I don't care for the love triangle with Edwina. The TV show heavily deviated from the books on this one, and I am okay with it. I loved the TV series and the books for different reasons. The books had fun banter, and some scenes I wish were portrayed better in the show. I feel like Sienna and Anthony replaced these events from the book in the show.

⭐️⭐️Fun Banter, But Over-the-Top Drama Anthony and Kate’s romance had great enemies-to-lovers chemistry, and their constant banter was definitely an upgrade from the first book. Kate is a stronger female lead, and her sharp wit made her actually feel like a good match for Anthony. Their interactions were some of the most entertaining in the series—but the execution still had some serious issues. Anthony’s whole “I can never love” drama got old fast, and his behavior toward Kate sometimes felt more frustrating than romantic. The way he handled his engagement to her sister was unnecessary, and his over-the-top jealousy had me rolling my eyes. The famous pall mall scene was a highlight and really showcased the fun of the Bridgerton family, but it also reminded me how much more I liked the family dynamics than the actual romance. While this book was more enjoyable than The Duke and I, the dramatic alpha male nonsense made it hard to fully love. Entertaining, but not without its flaws.

Similar to the Netflix show, where I enjoyed season 2 more than season 1, book 2 has the first one beat in my eyes! I think this primarily has to do with the characters. I love Kate. I find her relateable and likeable and Anthony is just the right amount of “bad” to get me attached. Plus, it’s no secret I love an enemies to lovers trope as well as banter so of course I was all about their love story. I enjoyed seeing more of each of their fears and I loved that there is no secret with how Anthony felt about Kate from the beginning. I was enthralled and although I knew the outcome there was still so much to be surprised by. Again, I was a huge fan of the audiobook and would more than recommend diving into this series. Cannot wait to rent book 3!

I have not read the full Bridgerton book series but I am already sure that this is the best book in the series. It was just so entertaining. I kept wanting more of Anthony, more of Kate, and more of Anthony and Kate! Their banter was so fun and the way that Quinn wrote some of their conversations along with the events in this book really did make me laugh out loud. Something about this novel in the series felt so much more real and grounded than all of the others and I cared deeply about Anthony and Kate. The only time I did not enjoy the story is a seen in Anthony's study where I felt that Anthony was taking the slight animosity and tension between him and Kate too far and he came across as a bully. However, as the book goes on he does become nicer and deeply caring towards Kate.

I say if you want to read the Bridgerton series, skip the first book and start with this one.
