The Locked Door

A twisty psychological thriller from the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Housemaid and The Coworker!

Some doors are locked for a reason...

While eleven-year-old Nora Davis was up in her bedroom doing homework, she had no idea her father was killing women in the basement.

Until the day the police arrived at their front door.

Decades later, Nora's father is spending his life behind bars, and Nora is a successful surgeon with a quiet, solitary existence. Nobody knows about her past, and she'll do anything to keep it that way.

Then one of her young female patients is murdered, killed in the same unique and horrific manner that her father used to kill his victims.

Somebody knows who Nora is. Somebody wants her to take the fall for this unthinkable crime. But she's not like her father. The police can't pin anything on her. As long as they don't look in her basement...

From New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden comes a riveting psychological thriller about guilt, secrets, and whether it's possible to outrun what's in our blood.

About a lady who is being framed for a few murders. Bit of a slow burn and writen well as the book jumps from past to present throughout which I’m not really a fan of. Felt a little detached to the main character because she didn’t quite have typical likeable main character traits so I wasn’t exactly completely invested. A lot of the book is front and back heavy while the middle kind of drags (not in a chore-reading type way but more so in a slow way). All in all, the end did surprise me quite a bit and kept me on my toes while I was reading due to the many twists and turns.

Audiobook: Man, that narration was terrible. The story ending was convoluted and had way too many red herrings.

Not my favorite Freida book, but still found this one captivating and couldn’t put it down! I find Nora’s character to be frustrating and at times annoying. Her dedication to being alone and pushing everyone away made me wanna pull my hair out, though clearly I understand why she did it. I assumed she had done worse stuff in the her childhood though to warrant staying away? Maybe it was just the shame of not being able to save that girl. With this one, I felt like Frieda didn’t give us enough time to believe it was Brady and then Phillip before revealing the true person behind the crimes. It reminded me of the Inmate, but that’s why I gave it four stars because I feel like I’ve seen this from her before. I was still surprised and overall enjoyed the book! I don’t find Harper’s POV compelling, so the last chapter is hard to believe. But maybe after hearing her crimes I don’t think what Nora did was so bad? Either way, I thought it was sweet Nora got a happy ending (for now??).
