WOW! This is a stellar mystery/thriller! It grabbed me from the first word and made me yell “NO!” at the last. Summer camp, missing girls, ghosts, multiple suspects, insanity. Fifteen years later, repeat. Two truths and one lie.
I only post my best reviews on my blog and this one has recently gained that title!
-If you are reading this, which fictional Disney animal would you most like to have as your sidekick?

The Last Time I Lied takes the familiar summer camp thriller and gives it an eerie edge. Emma Davis returns to Camp Nightingale fifteen years after her three bunkmates vanished. She hopes that the reopened camp will offer answers. The lake, cabins, old friendships, and lies all feel charged with danger from the moment she arrives.
I wanted this to fool me a little more than it did. I called a major twist almost as soon as one of the main characters stepped onto the page. The revenge thread felt pretty easy to spot as well. Maybe I am simply too paranoid for my own good. My internal detective board had red string everywhere before Emma even began to question others' intentions. The twist reveal made sense once it happened, but it did not give me the gasp-worthy punch I wanted from a thriller.
Emma’s search for the truth kept me reading as Camp Nightingale’s polished surface started to crack. Sager is great at making a beautiful setting feel wrong. This camp had all the creepy lake, rich people secrets, and bad decision vibes I could ask for. I did wish the ending gave more closure. The victims’ families deserved more space after so many years of grief. I wanted the dust to settle instead of rushing to the conclusion.
Nicol Zanzarella’s narration was fantastic. She brought the fear, suspicion, and trapped-at-camp feeling to life so well. The audiobook felt extra atmospheric. Her performance made the woods feel darker, the lake feel colder, and Emma’s panic feel very real.
The Last Time I Lied is a moody camp thriller with strong audiobook narration. It has a setting that does a lot of heavy lifting. Pick it up if you are someone who wants to read about missing girls, old secrets, revenge, and suspicious summer camp vibes. I just wanted the mystery to outsmart me a bit more.
I got "Sagered" again. this one floored me.
Entertaining suspense novel.
