I recently finished reading The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager, and it was a thrilling and captivating read from start to finish. He is one of my absolute favorite authors. The dude can write a thriller!
The story follows the protagonist, who retreats to her familyâs secluded lake house to escape her troubled past. However, she soon discovers that the place holds dark secrets. She becomes entangled in a web of suspense and danger as she delves deeper into the truth.
Sagerâs writing style is engaging and keeps you on the edge. The pacing is perfect, with well-timed twists and turns that will leave you guessing until the end. The characters are well-developed and relatable, adding depth to the narrative.
What I particularly enjoyed about this book is the atmospheric setting. The house across the lake is described in such vivid detail that it becomes a character, adding to the sense of unease and tension.
If youâre a fan of psychological thrillers with a touch of mystery, I highly recommend The House Across the Lake. Itâs a gripping and suspenseful read that will keep you hooked until the final page.

I wanted to like this book, but it was just too weird. The paranormal piece came out of nowhere and the end romance added absolutely nothing to the story. I wanted a psychological thriller, not a story about has been drunk, idiot man who plots to murder his rich wife, and a creepy AF paranormal serial killer. Book #101 in 2024
UH... I don't know what to feel.
Spoilers ahead. Do not read if you have not read the book yet.
I was loving the book till they bought up the soul changing thing. I read the book thinking it was a murder mystery. I didn't see the genre of 'Paranormal'. I don't enjoy reading it. As I never DNF books, I completed it.
I knew from the beginning that Casey killed Len. It might be because of the books I have read earlier. And I also knew Tom was trying to kill Katie.
But I think the paranormal feature might not have been needed. You know just my opinion.

Expected a different twist from the supernatural one in the story. Story goes well until it abruptly turns into supernatural form. Otherwise well written.
