Ok, well, what to say...

What the flip was that?

The Kiss of Deception was surprisingly disappointing for me. I had been saving this because I saw so many good reviews about it, and of course that created a lot of build up and excitement. Sadly the book didn't live up to it for me.

The Characters:
Nope. Sorry need more details? Lia was a complete fool. She was beyond irritating and ignorant. Congratulations, you can take orders and carry plates, now everyone stop pointing out that she's a waitress, I got it the first time. The "Assassin" was one great big joke, not to mention a jerk and a loser. The Prince was the only character I liked, he seemed genuine. Not to mention what he does for Lia in the end. He was incredible /swoon.

The Romance:
Lia and The Prince I enjoyed. Lia and The Assassin, nope. The love triangle I knew was coming but I had no idea it was going to push as hard as it did. Seriously, it became the focus of the entire book. I don't even remember half the plot because it wasn't prominent enough.

The Plot:
I don't remember much of it. Um, spoiled princess unhappy with arranged marriage runs away leaving her kingdom and all it's people defenseless against 2 armies, you know, because she's an adult.

She runs away with her even dumber maid to a little seaside town and becomes a waitress. There she meets The Assassin and The Prince, love triangle ensues and lasts the majority of the book, then she leaves. There's a book and some magic in there somewhere but seriously, the love triangle pushed so hard it was difficult to see anything else. A simpler romance would have been just fine and left plenty of room for an actual fantasy story.

Ok so what did I like if I gave it 2 stars?

I liked The Prince. I liked the romance between Lia and him. I also enjoyed the world the author built. There was a lot of history behind the conflict. I think the second book will be better. I just hope The Prince doesn't get screwed over after everything hes done.

This book is a great read, the book changes perspectives between characters as they are all in the same place. The author painted a picture in every scene, it was almost as if I was there witnessing these events myself. There were twists in the story you wanted to happen and twists that you didn’t want to happen. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy and romance books.
