With love comes trust, a bond easily broken...but for family we risk our lives.

✨ I truly adored this book. It is a fantasy book with ideas, plot twists, and characters that are original and not just cookie-cutter fantasy story makeup. For me, there was just enough of everything - politics, family, love, betrayal, etc.
✨ The story changes point of view between Kazi, a thief, and Jase, the new leader of an empire. They find themselves thrown together and we follow them through months of love and betrayal from every direction.
✨ The plot is engaging and the story is beautifully written. This is one of few books, especially in fantasy, where the love between characters is realistic and healthy.
✨ The only aspect of the book that I did not love were the excerpts from the past. I did like how they gave perspective to who Jace and his family are/were, but it was like another story. Overall, a fantastic read!

I really really was into this book at first & never had a point where I wasn’t, but I put it down so easily & never had the urge to pick it back up. When I did pick it back up finally, it seemed dull & confusing. Maybe it was just me?
I loved Jase & Kazi’s enemies to lovers typa love & how it wasn’t like every other love story that follows the same trope. I’d be excited to see what happens between them & their worlds in the next book… Maybe have to reread!
For now, 3.5 stars
