The Bridge Kingdom

The iconic Bridge Kingdom series begins: a sweeping, sizzling fantasy romance filled with political intrigue and passionate love, from the New York Times bestselling author of A Fate Inked in Blood.
"Heart-pounding romance and intense action wrapped in a spellbinding world. I was hooked from the first page!"—Elise Kova, USA Today bestselling author of A Deal with the Elf King
A warrior princess trained in isolation, Lara is driven by two certainties. The first is that King Aren of the Bridge Kingdom is her enemy. And the second is that she'll be the one to bring him to his knees.
The only route through a storm-ravaged world, the Bridge Kingdom enriches itself and deprives its rivals, including Lara's homeland. So when she's sent as a bride under the guise of peace, Lara is prepared to do whatever it takes to fracture its impenetrable defenses. And the defenses of its king.
Yet as she infiltrates her new home and gains a deeper understanding of the war to possess the bridge, Lara begins to question whether she's the hero or the villain. And as her feelings for Aren transform from frosty hostility to fierce passion, Lara must choose which kingdom she'll save . . . and which kingdom she'll destroy.

I loved this book! I loved the writing and character and world building.
I did think some of the characters were a little under developed but I noticed we follow Ahnna and her mans in later books so that will be interesting to read.
The concept of the bridge was really intriguing due to the creation of the bridge itself. BUT I did have questions that were kinda needling at me. So everyone uses the bridge to transport goods etc etc⦠but if its so bad, why not just trade directly with the country? Why would a set of powerful countries decide to give all their trust to the bridge holders? That didnt make much sense to me especially seeing how ithicana gave high fees etc. like why just not sail to these countries? (I know some will argue about treaties etc and i get it but idk jusy something that I couldnât shake off)
Anyway, i still enjoyed the story and loved Lara. I thought she was so badass!
I kinda enjoyed Arenâs POV and wasnt too annoyed with it, i think the author did him good. I do wish we had Laraâs entire POV OR we followed a lot more characters like her sisters and her father etc. so that is something I feel was a missed opportunity.
All in all, I will continue the series and see where it goes

This was the start of a great romantasy!
The world was very unique - it took me awhile to wrap my mind around the kingdom, but it is very creative and I loved the visual of the islands - they sound beautiful.
The ending was not what I expected! Reading the second is an absolute must, because !!!
