Begin a sweeping, sizzling fantasy romance filled with political intrigue and passionate love, from the New York Times bestselling author of A Fate Inked in Blood.
A warrior princess trained in isolation, Lara is driven by two certainties. The first is that King Aren of the Bridge Kingdom is her enemy. And the second is that she’ll be the one to bring him to his knees.
The only route through a storm-ravaged world, the Bridge Kingdom of Ithicana enriches itself and deprives its rivals, including Lara’s homeland. So when she’s sent there as a bride under the guise of peace, Lara is prepared to do whatever it takes to fracture its impenetrable defenses—and the defenses of its king.
Yet as she infiltrates her new home and gains a deeper understanding of the war to possess the bridge, Lara begins to question whether she’s the hero or the villain. As her feelings for her husband transform from frosty hostility to fierce passion, Lara must choose which kingdom she’ll save . . . and which she’ll destroy.
Also includes the bonus chapters from the paperback reissue: “The Wedding” from Ahnna’s point of view and “The Capture” from Jor’s point of view

Loved the beginning and the end. Middle was okay. Looking forward to the second one!
Okay i'd give this a 2.5 rounded up only because it was enjoyable enough i'm going to start the 2nd book rn.
Tho it's also because these books are free with my audible free trial lmao
The fantasy side of this story resides mostly in its worldbuilding which is quite straightfoward and nice to learn about.
The narrators both making their voices as deep and low as they can for the guy's lines was hilarious but it did prevent me from taking anything he said very seriously. ( i kept imagining a gorilla talking, don't ask me why i have no idea lmao)
The romance was quite okay and i even enjoyed in some way the hetero nonsense here and there, it made me laugh.
(I mean "he has a ......... MALE scent about him" so you're telling me you can smell chromosomes or something what is that lmaooo)
But there was also nonfunny purely ridiculous and harmful nonsense too (aka blatant misogyny).
so yeah, not a bad book but one i'm happy to have read free of charge
couldn’t tell which one i wanted more, so that’s a win for me
this book was so fun! even tho the miscommunication trope truly makes me want to throw the book and scream endlessly
