The Bridge Kingdom First Edition

What if you fell in love with the one person you'd sworn to destroy?

Lara has only one thought for her husband on their wedding day: I will bring your kingdom to its knees. A princess trained from childhood to be a lethal spy, Lara knows that the Bridge Kingdom represents both legendary evil - and legendary promise. The only route through a storm-ravaged world, the Bridge Kingdom controls all trade and travel between lands, allowing its ruler to enrich himself and deprive his enemies, including Lara's homeland. So when she is sent as a bride under the guise of fulfilling a treaty of peace, Lara is prepared to do whatever it takes to fracture the defenses of the impenetrable Bridge Kingdom.

But as she infiltrates her new home - a lush paradise surrounded by tempest seas - and comes to know her new husband, Aren, Lara begins to question where the true evil resides. Around her, she sees a kingdom fighting for survival, and in Aren, a man fiercely protective of his people. As her mission drives her to deeper understanding of the fight to possess the bridge, Lara finds the simmering attraction between her and Aren impossible to ignore. Her goal nearly within reach, Lara will have to decide her own fate: Will she be the destroyer of a king or the savior of her people?

This book was a decent read. I did have a little bit of a hard time connecting to the world in the book because the author included much more description(context-clues) than explanation. I am aware there’s a rule in writing called, “show not tell”, but I feel as if the author used that rule a bit excessively. Nonetheless, I appreciate the author’s efforts to have the readers piece things together themselves. I did develop a slight dislike for the male lead because of the time when he basically let one of his past hook-ups sit on his lap in front of his wife(the main character), without correcting the woman that he was now currently married. I know that they were still figuring out their feelings for each other at that point, but it felt honestly so disrespectful and left a bad taste in my mouth.

I took a break from ACOTAR, fully expecting to downgrade, but it wasn't a downgrade at all! And I loved this series as well! - romance, adventure, vengeance, strong female lead, a tall dark and handsome man and all of the things I love in a book! Excited for the second one!

Our first 10/10 read!! Jensen created a fully developed reading experience with a unique world, fully realized characters, and stunning bonus content. Everyone fell in love with Lara and Aren’s playful banter and tasteful spice. The story made us feel something and we truly fell in love with it. Would we recommend? It’s a resounding YES from The Girlies. But make sure to read BOTH books 1 and 2 (at the very least) so you don’t miss out!

This book was so interesting. I was invested from the very first page, the writing is simple but well written and as far as fantasy books go this wasn’t too hard to follow. The world building in this book is *chef’s kiss*. Anyways read this book if you like fantasy ok? bye.
