The Boy Who Steals Houses

Can two broken boys find their perfect home? By turns heartbreaking and heartwarming, this is a gorgeously told, powerful story.

Sam is only fifteen but he and his autistic older brother, Avery, have been abandoned by every relative he's ever known. Now Sam's trying to build a new life for them. He survives by breaking into empty houses when their owners are away, until one day he's caught out when a family returns home. To his amazement this large, chaotic family takes him under their wing - each teenager assuming Sam is a friend of another sibling. Sam finds himself inextricably caught up in their life, and falling for the beautiful Moxie.

But Sam has a secret, and his past is about to catch up with him.

Heartfelt storytelling, perfect for fans of Jandy Nelson and Jennifer Niven.

C.G. Drews caught my attention last year with "A thousand perfect notes" which broke my heart into million pieces. So i became extra cautious to save my poor heart this time. The boy who steals houses is about two lost boys- Sam and his older autistic brother, Avery. Left out by everyone, Sam devotes his life to take care of his brother. There’s a catch though, they don't have any roof over their head. Sam keeps stealing houses, meaning he breaks into empty houses and live there until the family comes back. His only dream is to have a home for themselves. One day he gets caught up in the home of the large, chaotic De Lainey family. Each member thinks he is acquainted with some other member. Sam knows it's wrong but can't escape from this beautiful, promiscuous family, rather gets tangled up with this family. And starts to fall for Moxie, the sunshine of the family. His time with this family is his idea of heaven. How long till his secret comes out? How long till his past creeps up to him? And what happens if this kind family finds out about his lies? This heart-breaking story keeps you on toes and makes you ache for these broken boys. Full of triggering points, this book brings up a burning issue- what can happen to children whose parents are not human enough to take care of them! This book will make you want to drag those boys to your home and feed them and look after them as long as they need. C.G. Drews tore my heart open once again.
