The Blame Game: A Novel

In the vein of the Reese's Book Club x Hello Sunshine Book Club pick The Other Woman, Sandie Jones’s heart-pounding new novel The Blame Game will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

Games can be dangerous. But blame can be deadly.

As a psychologist specializing in domestic abuse, Naomi has found it hard to avoid becoming overly invested in her clients’ lives. But after helping Jacob make the decision to leave his wife, Naomi worries that she’s taken things too far. Then Jacob goes missing, and her files on him vanish. . . .

But as the police start asking questions about Jacob, Naomi’s own dark past emerges. And as the truth comes to light, it seems that it’s not just her clients who are in danger.

The whole book all I could think was “what the heck is going on” and I was very confused at various different times. But finally, in the last chapter and epilogue we get an explanation! While I had my suspicions that Anna was really Vanessa, I was not expecting the ending. Also wish we had a little more closure with Naomi’s sister.

Once again Sandie Jones proved why she is becoming a favorite of mine. I’ll admit I had my doubts because of how the mystery was set up. A lot didn’t make sense. I had to wonder about some characters that were introduced. Another thing that gets me is how the police are always written to seem less knowledgeable than they should be. I understand why they are written that way at times, but for this book it felt like it was forced a bit. What we were given doesn’t seem to add up to a persons guilt so why write the police like it does? Yes evidence can be damning, but I would like to think they don’t jump to conclusions like it appears the police characters in this book did. I am not saying Ms. Jones didn’t do get research. I’m sure she did. It just felt off to me. Maybe that was supposed to be the vibe of the story from the get go I am not sure. Regardless, I enjoyed this book and the pacing as usually was great. I would definitely recommend this to other readers. I’ll admit though it had me thinking twice about getting married…ever.
