The ABC Murders

How can one not rate an Agatha Christie mystery anything but 5 stars? And especially with Hercule Poirot as the detective. I particularly love the cleverness of his mysteries. I was fooled right up to the end. Of course, I always picture David Suchet as Hercule Poirot, which just added to my delight in reading this book.

As the crimes continue in alphabetical order, Poirot and his friend Captain Hastings must race against time to uncover the killer before the next victim falls. My Review: I’ve always enjoyed a good Hercule Poirot mystery, and this one drew me in immediately. I truly couldn’t put it down. It reminded me a bit of an episode of Law & Order or Criminal Minds, which left me deeply intrigued and completely invested in unraveling this particular mystery. In this story, Hercule Poirot receives letters that give clues about when and where the next victim will be found. At each crime scene, an intriguing sort of “signature” is left behind, adding another layer of mystery and tension. Though I actually did suspect the correct person of the crimes, the way it was written had me constantly second guessing myself, so the story still held that mysterious air I so love in my mystery reads. This book actually felt a little more modern to me than some of the other Christie works I’ve read, which may have been part of what made it so engaging. I found it a bit easier to follow, and the race against the clock added an extra layer of excitement that kept the pages turning. This has quickly risen to the top of my list of favorites by Agatha Christie, and I’m excited to continue my monthly journey through her mysterious writings to discover even more stories to savor and enjoy. I definitely recommend this one to anyone wanting to explore the brilliant mind of Agatha Christie and her beloved detective, Hercule Poirot. ✨

Another great Poirot mystery! Christi takes a bit of an unconventional turn in “the ABC murders” but our pal Hercule Poirot is up for the challenge, along with the ever faithful, Captain Hastings. The ABC Murders takes a bit of a spin on the other Poirot mysteries, which usually happen within one location, not so in this thrilling tale. Poirot is sent all across the country, investigating the mysterious murders of seemingly unconnected peoples. My personal take is this: while I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it probably wouldn’t be my first recommendation to someone who is just getting into Agatha Christi’s works, something like “Death on the Nile,” “the Mysterious Affair at Styles,” or “And Then There Were None,” might be a good place to start, but if you’re already a fan then by all means! Pick it up and give it a read! See if you can sleuth out the true criminal before even the great Hercule Poirot!
