The new perspective brings fresh energy, but it also exposes cracks in the characters that weren’t visible before. There’s humor, yes, and moments of levity, but beneath that is a constant hum of insecurity and longing. The emotional swings can feel jarring, but they also feel real — teenagers trying to navigate chaos with bravado and vulnerability in equal measure.
Some conflicts echo earlier books, and the pacing wobbles at times, but the character dynamics remain the heart of the story. The friendships are messy and loyal and painfully believable. The romance is layered with tension and missteps, and while not every moment lands perfectly, the emotional truth of it does.
Taking 7 isn’t the heaviest book in the series, but it’s one of the most introspective. It left me thinking about the characters long after I finished.
I just love gibs and Claire!
gibsie you are one of the loveliest people to ever exist. what this funny and friendly boy went through? shut the fuck up i can cry thinking about it. fell in love with him from the first book, and i will love him through everything.
people don't like claire in this book. i hate what she did at the end but i also understand. i liked claire from book one too and i still like her but i feel like i don't know her at all. her character was not explored in any way, wished we got that.
the romance didn't always hit for me, didn't feel much tension. probably because they were already together without the label.
and...lizzie, since apparently this is her book too. i never hated lizzie in the other four books. yes she pissed me off sometimes, but i never thought "wow i can't stand this hoe". that changed in this book
I really enjoyed this read although I felt like it was trying really hard to keep pace with the previous four books. Looking forward to reading the next book for Gibsie and Claire to see where this takes us.
