I guess everyone has a bookclub now and this is Reese Witherspoons's pick. I was expecting something a lot better. It was a very slow build. Obviously, the title gives you a hint. Something will be found in the water. What? How will it affect you? Erin and Mark are a young couple on their honeymoon in Bora Bora when they discover something in the water. That does not happen until page 112. See what I mean about a slow build? There was so much back story, especially about Erin's career, which does have a part in the story but oh my, the wait....The story did not pick up the pace for me until the last 100 pages. By that time, I was too invested to quit reading. I wanted to know what happened, not just about what was found in the water but what was going on in chapter one. The story comes back to that moment and figure it all out. I don't want to give anything away but things are not always as they seem. I will however say that the choices Erin makes are not very believable. I had to stretch my imagination for some of the things she was able to do in like two minutes while under mounting pressure (erasing CCTV monitors?). Really? :/
Excellent story. Listened on audio. Intense thriller.
brilliant debut by this author, gripping, informative and very-well plotted; can't wait to read more...
This is very much a "popcorn" read. It's suspenseful, entertaining, but it does not have much substance. I was really disappointed at the end as I do not think the "twist" was well supported by the preceding text nor was it particularly original and surprising. This was also another story in which the protagonist isn't all that likeable. That makes it a little hard to invest in caring about her outcome.
So good!
