I was initially hesitant to read Six of Crows because I worried I wouldn't connect with the world-building and at times I did find it challenging. However, I watched Shadow and Bone beforehand and thought it was a great help. I feel I didn't miss out on anything by starting with the series; it provided a solid background, and I don't intend to read Shadow and Bone anyways. I particularly LOVED the found family dynamic and the plot twists. Initially, I was worried about the characters' young ages feeling unrealistic but I think their vulnerability and emotional constipation made their teenage roles believable.

Where I think this is a 4.5 (I rounded up) instead of 5 is because I felt Wylan's narrative was blatantly missing throughout. It is, after all, 'Six' of Crows, not 'Five'. Apart from that, I appreciated how well-developed the other characters were and how attached I became to them. They're all flawed but so so so endearing, and you can't help but root for each one. The book leaves you wanting more of them and excited for the next book.

I was looking for a book that had a lot of action, suspense, and of course some old fashioned heist. This book had it all. All the characters were very interesting and likable. Usually I am not a fan of romance in books but the amount romance/ tension Kaz with Inej and Matthias and Nina was just right. Another thing that I liked was the background stories between the characters. The last thing that I liked was how easy it was to remember the characters and their POVS. Overall this book was great and I can’t wait to read the sequel.
