"This action will have no echo"
A stunning finish to this duology! I love Bardugo's writing style, I find it very easy to follow along with the story, and the characters are well written! I don't like all of the characters, looking at you Kaz, but they still seem realistic...well, everything except their AGES!!! I've read both books now, I've reminded myself of their ages numerous times throughout the book, and it still hasn't stuck. Mid-twenties would seem so much more likely. But maybe that's just me.
Nina is my favorite. She's so boisterous. This part where Matthias describes is one of my favorite scenes:
I also can't not mention Matthias dying!! I had a feeling someone would die, and the whole time I was expecting it to be Jesper for some reason. But then it was Matthias. *sobs*
His death was shocking, and not heroic or dramatic...it was tragically realistic. He was killed by the younger version of himself. All of this is still true, but I wanted to scream right along with Nina when he stopped breathing. I'm just so glad he got to tell her goodbye.
So, to conclude, I am very glad I did pick up this series despite my original hesitation, because I found that the books really did earn their hype!

âMeeting you was a disaster.â
She raised a brow. âThank you.â
Djel, he was terrible at this. He stumbled on, trying to make her understand. âBut I am grateful for that disaster. I needed a catastrophe to shake me from the life I knew. You were an earthquake, a landslide.â
âI,â she said, planting a hand on her hip, âam a delicate flower.â
âYou arenât a flower, youâre every blossom in the wood blooming at once. You are a tidal wave. Youâre a stampede. You are overwhelming.â

2.5 stars
Not as good as the first book, although I did enjoy how Kaz's mind worked once again. There was a point in the book that left me bored. I was eager to see it come to an end. A little too draggy, to be precise, but I might be the one who lacked the patience. Either way, I didn't read it for days from there on. What I hated most was having one of my favourite characters die. Like... was there really a need for it, Leigh? Why did you do it and kill him off? Sigh. Either way, still enjoyed the twists and turns, and of course going through the story with the Six Crows. I probably won't read this one again though. If I do, I'll just read the first book. Shame.
