Readers say *Shallow River* is a raw, emotional dark romance with a powerful message about abuse and survival. Many praise the vivid, gut-wrenching po...
It was a good book but the way River’s character was portrayed, I found it kind of dumb that she stayed in an abusive relationship for so long. I mean it was a good story but I wouldn’t classify this a dark romance. There was barely any spice. Then when it came down to this “incredibly strong woman” she falls apart over cutting a tomato…that part was just taken from Hunting Adeline, which didn’t make it seem like its own story, just taken from another story. Was hoping for something more original, because I already read that in another book.
I love this author but I was so disappointed with the writing. A lot of typos and improper grammar. The storyline had such potential but H.D really didn't do it justice in this book. Didn't hate it, didn't love it.
Loved!!!
I have a lot to say. I decently like the book until about 60% in when plot lines were just not making sense. I’m all for a shocking twist. But when there are literally no clues leading up to this?? Just does not make sense. I forced myself to finish it. It wasn’t even all that spicy it was just severely fucked up. I think they had a total of 3 MAYBE 4 spicy scenes between MMC and FMC. The rest was all SA towards her by other people.
2.25 ⭐️ 3 spice (for what there was..)

My first dark romance, and the first half was really hard and irritating to read, but it is probably the mentality of someone who is actually being abused and manipulated. The second half makes it worth it, and there is also a murder mystery plot going on at the same time.
