A gory, smutty, devastating story, I was gripped from the first page. I personally love gory dark taboo romances, this is devastatingly beautiful in my honest opinion. Mortis, Timothy, Jackal, Baine, Cronus swoon
When I first started this book I had a "what the hell?!?" moment, but very quickly Sibby became my favorite and I can't wait to see what part she plays in the next books
I read this book because I really liked Haunting Adeline and am enjoying Hunting Adeline. I also started Does it Hurt but stopped for now while I read Hunting Adeline. I find H.D. Carton to be a great writer so I decided to try the novella so I could get more background on Sybil. Sadly, I almost DNF’d it.
The sex scenes felt superfluous and I just did not enjoy all the violence. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s a novella so the violence felt like a lot of the story but I liked the second half of the novella more where it was more character driven.

This book offers a dark and twisted journey into a haunted carnival, with a gripping narrative and chilling atmosphere. The protagonist, Sibby, navigates a world filled with terror and deceit, providing plenty of suspense. However, some plot elements feel underdeveloped and the pacing can be uneven, which may detract from the overall experience. Despite its flaws, the novel succeeds in delivering a hauntingly eerie story that will appeal to fans of dark psychological thrillers.
