Does It Hurt?: Alternate Cover

Description

Who am I?

I've forgotten the answer to that question long ago. Ever since I ran from that house, so desperate to escape, I left with only the clothes on my back and socks on my feet. After that day, I've only ever walked in stolen shoes.

Could I be a girl who is searching for the meaning of life in faceless men? They were all so forgettable. Until he came along. He took me under a waterfall and made me forget my name, and in return, I took his instead.

Enzo Vitale.

An enigmatic man that will only ever love the deep sea. Or rather the predators that inhabit it. Turns out, he's not so different than the monsters he feeds. He lured me onto his boat like a fish in the ocean, seeking vengeance for my crime. Had I realized his intentions, and that a massive storm would leave us shipwrecked, I would've run.

Now, I'm a girl who's seeking refuge in a decrepit lighthouse with a man who loathes me almost as much as he craves me. He wants to hurt me, but the old caretaker of the abandoned island may have intentions far more sinister.

It's no longer a question of who I am, but rather, will I survive?

I do like that Sawyer grew to love the “fear” aspect when she trusted her partner Enzo to understand her limits. I think there’s something to be said about the mmc, knowing the fmc so well, maybe even better than she knows herself, and I think that’s what draws me in; I want someone to know me that well and I try so hard to bring me pleasure. In the beginning Enzo seeking Sawyer for revenge….He was scary and genuinely wanted to hurt her- didn’t love that honestly but understood how it would make them “even” and that the 2 wrongs they’d done to each other sort of seemed to cancel each other out. I found a lot of similar parallels that pull from the cat and mouse duet/ does it hurt, but they’re also very different. Overall I love this author and will continue reading everything she ever writes.

The mystery of the book was easy to see coming and only maintained by the characters giving it absolutely no thought. Enzo as a love interest is not great, he's petty, manipulative, and definitely does not apologize enough for what he puts the FMC through.

I was going to pick up Cat & Mouse duet first but chose to read this..... without realising it's from the same author but hey that's a good decision I made. And I will definitely read the duet.

Where is Enzo and why is he not speaking Italian in my bed?

I loved the whole badass woman and badass man vibes the book gave, Sawyer had her own backbone and Enzo knew that enough to give her space (okay not so much but for the most of the time). I still can't choose if I'd want Enzo to talk dirty or cheesy to me so I stick to both. I liked how they both grew to understand each other more even though they fought and bickered, it portrayed a healthy relationship. The smut was top tier, degrading and breeding kind in one man, what else could you possibly want?

The one star I deducted was for the predictable plot line. Could see it from miles away that the stupid old man wasn't that stupid after all. I actually was expecting him to get up and walk properly without the cane but I guess he really did lose a leg. I knew he had to have someone of his family imprisoned above which explained the sounds but the way he dismissed them to be ghosts like that's disgusting and I'm glad he died

Get yourself a man that tells you being inside you is better than being in the ocean where he works as a shark nanny.
