Hunting Adeline (Cat and Mouse Duet)

This book really brought my overall experience with this duet down dramatically. Having Addy suffer the way that she does in this book was almost unreadable. It felt more like torture porn than a necessary part of her character arc. I also really disliked the holes in this story. Zade telling her that he can kill her if he wants to is not romantic. And I would think it might even trigger her PTSD. I also really disliked the ending, even though it was a little funny. It just felt like another reminder that this romance is probably not good for either character. I thought that there would be a lot more focus on Addy learning how to take care of herself and getting revenge, but those parts were almost rushed over and in that sense they felt very ungratifying. After finishing this duet, I was unsure how to feel.

Definitely worth the read, loved the duet so much!

The characters in this book are anything but stable in the emotional sense. Some scenes are potentially triggering, so be sure to read the warnings before embarking.

I’m so happy to be free of this book. Booktok really missed the mark with this duology. If you want spice, skip this one and read Icebreaker.

All I could think during this book was “I don’t want these r*psists, I want my r*pist”. Just like the first book, it’s incredibly contradictory.

This one was substantially better written than the first. And the first two acts of the book were actually very good, albeit disturbing. I didn’t hate Z as much and was appreciative of how he looked for Addie and cared for her after. But then it was like a switch went off and the two of them were back to their gross dynamic.

I went into this series not knowing what to expect. If I knew the subject matter, I would’ve passed. This book dragggggggged on and on, and was way longer than it needed to be. I wanted to DNF many times but just wanted to get to the conclusion. I kinda wish I just skipped this one. Overall I would not recommend.

So many emotions... I enjoyed getting to see more of some characters from the 1st book that i felt didn't get enough time in the spotlight. The dark and sick reality of just how messed up the world can be. This is not a book for children!!! There is no hero in this book. Only those willing to truly take what they want! Grateful to have this added to my collection. Towards the end, it did feel as if some things were left unsaid or incomplete.
