âSuch a contradiction that something so dark shines so brightly beneath the light.â
I donât know where to begin or where to end. Everything and nothing fills me. How I long to be a little mouse for my kitty cat

Still processing this book days later. I have a lot of feelings. Firstly, the plot was hugely contradictory. A man who saves women from sex trafficking who also is actively stalking & raping a woman? Make it make sense. Also, the disclaimer in the beginning says that the book has nothing to do with QAnon, however the entire story is based off of one of their conspiracies. The author also introduced a ghost subplot but then⦠never did anything with it. The best part of this book was the side story of the murder mystery the main character was trying to solve with her friend. Overall though, I was hooked on the story and Iâll definitely read book 2. But I wasnât very impressed.
To keep it real- the story was trashy (the cheesy equivalent of Hallmark, but more violence and dysfunction with a heaping scoop of psychotic behavior). That being said, I read both books because the sex kept it interesting and the dysfunction was equal parts relatable and intriguing.
The story itself was cheap. And needlessly extra in some areas, then vague in others.
The author seemed to rediscover terms and then overuse them in various places. There would be no mention of, for example, the word ‘gratitude’ in any of the text, then it would show up 15 times within a chapter or two; it was particularly distracting. The language as a whole was strange (perspective swapping didn’t help); not enough individual distinction between the viewpoints.
Despite this, I’ll give it a 6. Through it all, my attention was held, holding out for a twist or something dramatic, but it was all predictable and tame.
The scenes with kinky and even disturbing sexual practices were not as off putting as the warnings described (though that is most likely a commentary on my own psyche).
