Book three...book three...book three. Thy rating has dropped.
Why is book three always the "clean-up" novel? I mean I understand coming to a resolution, but the fight scenes just drag on too long for me. Surely there is more plot grit than war. I digress.
In book three, Eve has made a life in the palace with a secret she keeps close to her heart. Her loyalties to the crown are wavering at best (or non-existent if you really understand the book) and she must decide who matters and who doesn't in the fight to destroy the New America. #the struggleisreallyrealnow #theforceisstrongwiththisone
Her soul mate is gone, Arden is gone, and Charles is driving her crazy. She feels lost in a world she doesn't understand enough to fix, but knows it needs to change.
Caleb's memory and the revolution he was a part of keep her pushing through to the next day and with the help of others willing to risk everything, Eve begins a plot to destroy the world within the walls of the city - to take down the New America. Plot spoiler - the plot pans out.
Now - there were some nice twists at the end of this series AND Anna Carey did NOT turn Eve into a whiny "girl." She kept a strong lead protagonist throughout the book series with appropriate transitions and plausible changes in character. That is why she gets three stars - it would have been four if the battle scenes didn't drag out for an eternity. And I liked Charles, too - I wanted him to get more in the end because it was never his fault, none of it.
Overall, this was a good series and I'm glad I read it. I would recommend this to my students - a solid read!

I'm frustrated with how obsessive she is over Caleb. Like, he's the first boy you have ever met EVER and you just become obsessed with him. That's not healthy.
Anyway, she treats Charles like shit for no reason. He put up with way too much.
The end also seemed very rushed. Like, the three books dragged and then bam! last four chapters are so short and just quickly tied everything together.
ugh
