I added this book to my list a few months back because there were a bunch of parents bitching about this YA novel and saying it needs to be removed from the middle school library. Having 3 kids myself I wanted to see what this bitching was aboutâ¦
I finished this book in one day, easy read. Itâs a book I would let my middle schooler read. It has lots of profanity, vaguely speaks about child abuse/murder/drugs, and once mentioned oral sex and brief description to insinuate a character was trying to have sex. Mental health and child neglect is a theme in the novel. No graphic details of any kind about sex, abuse, or drug use. It was written for 13-17 years old, and I the author did just that. I believe how I raised my children they would be mature enough to read and understand this story.
The kids in the book remind me of how it was in middle school and high school, growing up in NYC. As a kid and as an adult all the topics and colorful language written in this book came up in middle school.
I think these parents in our school district are overreacting and sheltering their children. I will say that it isnât for every kid but you also have to understand itâs not a required class reading. Itâs a book for kids to check out the library so if your kid isnât into reading books like this they will not read it. Donât mess it up for the other kids who are emotionally and mentally capable of reading this book.
This is not a graphic book or murder mystery but about a young girl who has a mental breakdown because she lost her best friend and itâs written as a recollection to help her remember what happened so she can heal.
I gave this book âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸, and highly recommend for you and your teen to read it if this is your genre.

This book was soooo good and thought provoking. Even made me cry, I really felt the main characters pain.
Holy shit. What a book. I think I need to reread it immediately. Iâm going to be thinking and talking about this book for a long time to come.
Wow! I was not prepared for this book. I haven’t heard many people talk about it but its high ratings on Goodreads speak the truth- it’s a powerful story! Once you read the synopsis you know it is going to be a tragic story. But be warned, you’ll probably cry once you uncover the full picture. F*ck this book got me right in the heart! This book rekindles the rage I have about media only caring for pretty, white females.
